I recently bought a Norinco M14s on EE. It came with a A.R.M.S. scope mount and a Bushnell 3200 tactical 10x Mildot scope. Do you guys think that this scope is a little to powerful for a M14? I was thinking about taking it off and using a Red Dot on it?

I really just wanted to see what you guys thought, if I should take it off or leave it on?

At what range and under what circumstances are you going to shoot it?
A red dot is pretty much a short range sight.
That scope would not be a good choice for short range. The dot would be a poor choice for medium and long range.
A mid-range variable might be the best choice.
Given what a new 10x40 sells for, you should be able to get $180 or so for that one, to put toward a more versatile sight.
Incidentally, is your magazine latched in properly?

10x is not too powerful for a 308win.
I'd want a 1-4x scope for hunting, target shooters wouldn't want that low magnification, plinkers would be ok with a red dot, some hunters would need higher magnification ect ect
tiriaq's first line says it all.

I am really on the fence. I already own a Tikka T3 30/06 with a Burris 3x9x40 scope on it, that I use for hunting. Now that I just bought this gun, I don't know if I will keep everything as is. I am thinking about selling the Tikka to help fund a AR 15 or CZ858, since I could easily use this M14 for hunting now.

I might just use my Tikka on the lower 3x setting for walking around, since it is so nice and light. Then when I go to a tree stand I will bring out the M14 with the 10x scope.

That scope is perfect for closer range target shooting and hunting... ie. 100 yards.

Personally, I don't think this rifle needs any scope for general "defence" purposes and for shooting things closer than 100 yards.

A 10x scope for 100yard hunting?
You can get deer closer than 100yards, and if you stuck with a fixed 10x scope, your ####ed.

I don't plan on hunting with my M14 unless I am in a treestand so I don't have to worry about close up shots. The place I use the treestand is wide open, so I don't have to worry about anything under 100 yards. Even at 100 yards, I will still be able to pick up the deer in my crosshairs so I am not worried about that. Heck, at 50 yards I can pick up a target on a 10x scope no problem. Do I need that power...NO...but its nice to have if I see a deer at a 200 yard shot. I did get the scope included in the gun I bought, so its not like I will just leave it home when I have the chance to use.

With that being said, I may just take it off and put it on something else and use the M14 with a red dot. I am really on the fence here, thats why I posted my quetion. I just wanted to see what everyone else was using with there M14.

I am a fan of that scope on an M14 but I use mine exclusively for range work at 100 and 200m Any further than that I use bolt guns with more scope. On an AR I would look to a Falcon or Millet 1.5 x 5 or red dot but I don't see using the M14 for the same kind of shooting as I may use an AR for. FWIW I don't see a problem leaving it scoped as is for the hunting you describe.

Leupold makes the MK4 1.5x5 which should cover just about anything out to 4-500 metres if you get the proper dope recorded on your turrets. Trijicon also makes the accupoint with slightly less magnification and about $400 cheaper but it's still a quality scope. If you are on a budget, try out the Millet DMS-1 (1-4x).

x2 on that. I'm waitng for a Krieger barrel so M14Doctor can do a shorty build for me. After that I plan on using something like the Leupold MK4 1.5x5 or something similar on a ARMS mount. Might even save up for a S&B.

As someone mentioned earlier it really depends upon what you plan to use your Norc for. I planning to use mine for close range hunting in heavy brush with open areas and longer shots down trails and logging roads.
