What's a stovepipe?

A stovepipe is a failure to properly extract after firing. The casing sticks on the bolt head or extractor, and usually ends up partially exiting the ejector port, with the open end facing straight up.

Since the freshly fired brass is usually still smoking, it looks like a stove pipe sticking out the port.

I can be caused by everything from bolt and extractor problems, to a sloppy/sticky action or weak gas system. Low power ammunition can also cause this, as there may not be enough gas created to fully compress the action.

I looked it up, beside "Stovepipe" the dictionary said "Ruger 10/22".

Yeah I know, you need to buy a Vol-whatever extractor........

damn good thing it's accurate!

As seen in "I've been plagued lately by stovepipes on my CZ-75 SP-01 Shadow..."

What does it means?
It means just buy the regular CZ75B and you will never have to worry about them. Put 1800 rounds through mine so far without any issue whatsoever. Picked up another guys shadow and stovepiped while shooting the first mag full, and this was after he had put 400+ rounds through it so should have "loosened" up.

Ya my 10/22 jams quite a bit. What extractor are you talking about?

Nice pic of the Glick jamming. Out of all my pistols the Glick has given me the worst reliability.

A what extractor for the 10/22?
I just thought it was the cheep ammo i buy

Volquartsen extractor, as seen on their website:

https://www.volquartsen.com/category/16-action-trigger-components/10-1022-lr-action

You can find Volquartsen parts at a lot of gun stores, they're fairly common. If not, Hawktecharms and Rimfiresports both ship to Canada. My 10/22 was pretty reliable already, with maybe one stovepipe every 50-100 rounds or so. I heard a lot about the Volquartsen extractor though, so I gave it a go. Now I have absolutely NO more issues. I only installed the extractor, and left the factory spring instead of using the one Volquartsen supplied. So far so good. BTW, the trigger group is pretty sweet too. I know there's better out there (Kidd I believe) but the VQ does the job nicely.
