whats best, sightron or vortex viper?

I think the Sightron siii is a very good scope for the money. I wrote an optics review ( stickied at top of precision rifle forum ) that may help you. I'm not a fan of the Vortex though many others use and like them a lot.

Here is another comparison:

I'd go for the better glass (Siii), and the 8-32. You haven't said what your intended use for the scope is though.

Nice to see someone else on the sidelines with this. I am also very Curious.

I did look through the 16 magnification PST the other day and I must say the glass was not great at full magnification and was a little milky... This was compared to a bush ell elite tactical and the glass clarity was noticed instantly between the two.

I think I'm going for the sightron. Jerry at mystic has good things to say about them and he is a valueable source of info on here. Glass clarity does it for me. I want clear image all the way through the range spectrum. And after looking through the vortex I was a little took back as my heart was set on the PST.

I can do without illum and zero stop. I'm not shooting at night or black backgrounds and I am able to make my own corrections for adjustments on my turrets.

Thanks for that link though! Great help.

They are very different scopes. One is more geared toward fixed-range competition like F-class, BR, etc, and the other is more designed for unknown ranges, tactical, or hunting situations.

One thing about the PST is that the glass isn't the same in each scope, so look through the one you buy before purchasing. The glass in the two I'm using, one 6-24 FFP and one 4-16 FFP, is fantastic (about on par with Leup Mk4, Zeiss Conquest, etc).

It depends what will be the use of the scope and what features you are looking for. For "Tactical hunting", the Viper PST is loaded with nice features: Very clear glass, Very good turrets (audible and precise), illuminated reticle, FFP, Zero-stop (with shims), 75 MOA of adjustments, etc... I have a 4-16X50 PST FFP in MRAD on my 338 RUM rifle and love it! The only thing that is missing on the Viper PST's is the ability to lock the turrets; I noticed during my last hunting season that the turrets had moved from 0 probably going through brush or rubbing agaisnt clothing or gear.

In that same category, I also purchased a Weaver Tactical 3-15 (model 800363) because of all the features and 100 MOA of adjustments but when you turn on the illumination the reticle becomes blurry, scope was returned and a new one had the same issues, this whole process took 10 months. It will be replaced by another Vortex PST.

Man that's scary to hear....my weaver is just wonder full....I got it based on the rave reviews on the hide.....I hope it stays great .......you have me concerned now though...

On mine, only the illumination was bad. The glass and all was very good. But, when you think this scope is the most expensive of all Weaver scope, and intended for law enforcement and military, it's disappointing.

Personally I don't like the green.....and I find only the lowest two settings on red are plenty bright....
I'm not exactly sure what you are describing.....and it is their flagship scope....but I also don't expect perfection for700 dollars....

What I mean about blurry is a not well defined cross-hair as if 2 cross-hairs overlapping. The illuminated cross-hair on my Vortex is clean/ crisp and well defined. When I first returned to the store, the manager looked at it and confirmed a problem. The 2nd time or when I received the replacement, it was 2 customers and 2 employees who confirmed that the cross-hair is not clear when the reticle is lighted.

Got you.....but mine is not like that....many have looked through it.....but it does make you wonder about quality control for sure.
