Picked up a couple SKS's a while back, last time I had one of these was about 10 years ago.
What's everyone's take on the best non-corrosive 7.62x39 these days? Seems to be a lot more options then I remember.
Whos got the best prices?

I must be the only one in Canada that dislikes Barnaul lol. Neither my SKS, VZ 58 or Type 81 have demonstrated better then average accuracy with it. Hornady SST is hands down undeniably the best 7.62x39 ammo out there, but its also over 75 cents a shot.

Lol - I have a box of Hornady SST that is untouched and on a pedestal because I suspected what you have confirmed :). Bought it to smoke a buck. Still waiting lol.

Makes two of us. In everything I’ve owned Barnaul has always shot worse than the Chinese copper wash or Russian green case surplus. I’ve actually found the chinese copper wash to be the best shooting surplus ammo in both x39 and x54r out of 3 different sks , 2 different mosins and one SVT40. Others mileage may vary and when talking surplus rifles in x39 there’s a lot of variables come into play not just ammo.

That is just the point - Hornady is extremely good (albeit loaded on the soft-side), but it is most certainly not bulk ammo and it is quite likely not something anyone can really "stock up on". If a person wants to shoot bulk, then it is going to more than likely be surplus, Norinco, Barnaul, Tula and the ilk.

S&B ammo on 10round stripper clips. Kind of a pain in the ass to use since all of the stripper clips are individually sealed in thick plastic but the upside is that they are waterproof.

Barnaul is good stuff haven’t tried the norc surplus so can’t comment on it
A while back I got a can of that Hungarian surplus from Tenda
It’s brass cased so after I shoot it off I can reload some good ammo afterwards

Barnaul from me. Shoots great! I also have 4 bricks of Hornaday SST that I bought years ago when LeBaron was still in business. It's good stuff too. The most accurate stuff I have found is the RUAG Geco ammotec. Quality brass and consistent. But for most range days Barnaul is hard to beat.
