I just bought a box full of used black powder stuff at a gun shop. In it were a few things that I'm wondering about. Lamp wick, what looks like fine graphite powder, a large rubber bulb (similar to a baster that you use on your turkey) attachet to a hard plastic tube which is attached to a piece of rubber tubing which has a tapered spour for a powder flask glued to it. Does anyone have any idea what these would be used for in relation to muzzle loaders, or were they just something that got thrown into the box?

The box also contained several hundred .45 & .50 cal round balls along with a film can of .30 cal balls. There was a very nice powder horn, brass flask, several powder measures, capper, hundreds of round patches, poly patches, bore cleaner, patch lube, starters, aluminum ramrod, 8 or 10 books (BP shooting and reloading manuals), leather ball bag, and (I'm not sure what you call them but I know how to use them) two pieces of wood on leather thongs with 5 holes through them fitted with .45 & .50 cal patched balls.

Back to the question, what would these items (paragraph one) be used for?

This reminds me of an artical i just red in the DEC Handloader mag!

Aparently when they lit a keroseen lamp in the indoor rang the Concusion from a 45 Colt loaded with 38 grs of Black FFFg would cause the lamp to go out even when it was 10 ft behind the shooter :D

Dont know why i like that but i do :)
