What's it worth Sako finnbear L61R .338

Hard to be very accurate w/o pics.... in VG+ condition i would estimate value at $600-$800 for the rifle. The scope is older and technologically dated, but might appeal to persons looking for a "period" scope. Might get more $$ by selling rifle and scope separately.

I too have heard that magnaporting is a curse on a nice rifle for resale, with out it you should be looking at 1000.00 for the rifle and the scope if it is minty is worth 250.00 easy. FS

I have a mint 2.5-10 B&L Balvar on my CZ 221 Fireball. Bring me $250 and it's yours......:D..if it's worth $250 my mint Elite 3000 3-9 is worth $350.....waaay better scope than the Balvar.
Magnaporting would be a deal breaker for me that's for sure......good way to devalue a nice Sako.

I think fassteel was putting extra value on the Balvar because of collector value, rather than comparing it with a new scope.
On early variable scopes the crosshairs covered the same minute(s) of angle at all magnifications. This means that as the power is increased, the crosshairs appeared to get larger---with much larger coverage.
I had a Redfield 2x to 7x that was like that, and it was very disconcerning. I played around with a very early B&L, but can't remeber if it was that way, or not.

Most guys can't handle a 338 unless it has been ported and had a aftermarket pad installed. I think you will get $700 easy just for the rifle - more with the scope

Guys, unless I'm mistaken that Balvar is from the early-mid 90's. It was Bushnell's top-of-the-line scope then. They resurrected the Balvar name then. Sluggish adjustments, otherwise very nice scopes with wonderful optics.

Thats what I was thinking, Balvar were a pretty fine piece from Bushnell, but not all of us agree. FS

I bought a similar one to yours but .375 H&H. Sounds like the same condition, and has an older scope. payed 900 and was very happy with that. The fellow is a old family friend and he researched it a bit more and figured he should of sold it for more but told me 900 so he kept his word.

Nice scopes. Thats why they don't last all that long when they come available. I like to think they are a great scope for less $ . If you can't get a great deal on the Balvar then buy the 4200 line. After all....! I'm still a LEUPOLD guy:p
