What's more valuable: Shaved 45 ACP Webley MK I or Refinished 455 Webley Mk II?

Hi guys,

I have the opportunity to get either a Webley Mk I shaved for 45 ACP that is otherwise in original finish and condition, or a Webley MK II that is refinish/reblued but is in the original 455.

The reblue job is not bad, but it is very clearly hot-dip blued (some of the markings are not as crisp).

If they're approximately the same price, which one would you get, or which one do you think would hold more value in the future?

Either or, sounds like you want a shooter. If you get the 45 acp one you'll have to reload. If you get the 455 one you're better off reloading but Fiocci makes ammo. I doubt either will increase in value beyond their value as an antique blasters, which is not insignificant.

If you're looking for historical value I'd skip them unless they have some kind of unit marking which offers a guess at service history.

Unless you know the history of the individual gun that's been shaved, how do you know the owners before you have not been shooting full power ACP?

I can't say for sure but you have to figure that any that were shaved to use available 45ACP ammo during WWII, were shot with military full power ammo.

The shaved cylinder allows use of readily available full power factory ammo. Period. Especially for pistols bought out of the USA.
Importers would want the shaving done so they could be introduced to an American market with ammunition available for them already in place.

If people were reloading reduced loads of 45ACP to use, safely, in their Weblys, they could have, almost, as easily loaded for the original ctg. and saved the expense of machining the cylinder.
