What's the most you're willing to pay for a handgun?

Edit to clerify: application doesn't matter; there are glolden plated 1911s (STI) that cost ~$3000 US (or more!). While I think they are really great guns there is just no way I'm going to pay that kind of money for one.

Depends on the application.

A match gun set up perfectly for moi, I'd pay 3k if that's what it takes.

For a utility grade gun, I'd pay utility grade prices.

Will only pay good money for guns with collector's value. ie. Beretta Combat, Billennium.

Match grade gun and service reliability are oxymorons therefore don't worth the extra pony in my mind.

application shouldn't matter, if you're willing to pay $3000 for a gun than that's what you should pick, many people simply can't afford to spend that kind of money on a gun.

Well I paid something like $2200 for my PPC9 and then 200 on Mags and another 40 for bumpers and who knows how much on Ammo and a rig...

Are we talking new or used? Collectible or service?

There's no way I'd pay more than $1500 for a new service handgun. Heck theres no way I'd pay more than a grand when there are so many reliable service handguns available. (All the present LCF "service" pistols hover at the $1000 mark).

I can get a CUSTOM 1911 for under $1300....from the frame up!

However, if we're talking collectible guns (say previous to 1958ish) than $5000+ isn't necessarily out of line. Some classic Colts, Webleys or Smiths from the 19th century spring to mind immediately, and some from the first 40 years of the 20th easily approach that level.

This question reminds me of a friends Harley. It cost him somewhere on the order of 40Gs to build, and he painted it " '72 chevy black ".

Meanwhile you're cruisin' down the street on your brand new '07 Sportster with the gold flec paint....

I think that's the difference between "Looks Cool" and "IS COOL"

No matter what limit I come up with, someday there would be something I wanted that cost more ... maybe someday I'd get a chance to buy a Glock 18, eh? Right now I don't think I could afford to spend over a certain amount, but who knows what the future will bring. Maybe 10 years from now a Ruger Mark II will be a rare and valuable collectible.

Whatever it takes. Hell, if I would spend $3k on a PE-90 (which I might be forced to do one day), I would spend $3k or more on a handgun if I wanted/needed it that bad...

I said $1000, but that's assuming that it's just an average gun, nothing special or unique about it.

Really, it depends on what I'm looking at buying and if I have the funds available.

I am using an STI Edge in hard chrome, which I ended up spending $3000.00 + not including the mags and basepads.

I am willing to spend another $3000.00 plus for an SV IPSC limited gun. :D :D :D

I say 750 is max. How much does it really cost to manufacture a pistol? How much more to manufacture an accurate one?
