Hi All,
Thinking of getting a 17HMR and was wondering what you folks think is a good one to get ? I don't mean the most expensive one, I'm looking for a good, accurate, reliable gun with the ability to upgrade some parts and some aftermarket accessories in the future. Doesn't have to be pretty, just has to work.
Thanks....

Save your cash and get a Savage 93, there is no such thing as a non accurate .17 HMR rifle. At 100 yards I can consistently shoot loonies.

I don't have experience with any other .17's but I own a Marlin 917VS, and after bedding the action and free floating the barrel coupled with sorting the rounds by weight, I actually cloverleafed a 5rnd group at 75m. Best I have done so far. Price was right too! Previous owner had installed a rifle basix trigger as well.

I have a savage 93 with the accutrigger and it Is deadly, a shotgun lenth pull but 2 lbs

at 100 yards I can shoot an inch group leaning on the side of my barn

I recommend the savage 93R17 TR or TRR.

Accutrigger, fluted barred are stock. The stock has a macmillan shape which is ergonomically friendly. And shoots great.

Thanks for the input guys!
I decided to go with the Savage 9317-FV, synthetic stock, blued bolt and heavy varmint brl.
Although some of the other guns mentioned are very nice, the Savage is more in my price range ( which is shrinking ever since getting involved with guns....Do I have a sickness ??? Can't seem to stop getting more and more,:runaway: one day I'll have enough though,, right ??)
Thanks... Mike

you can make it look like this latter on....

it's not that much actually .... I don't drink or smoke or anything like that so I spend it on my toys , just add up a night at the pub, or a pack of smokes a day etc.... then multiply it by weeks/days in year and see how much gets drunk or burned away. I bought 37 rifles last year , at an average cost of 650$, plus scopes etc.... just the rifles were24k, now add the scopes, dies, brass , powder etc.... adds up quickly , then along comes all the camping hunting gear. Guys on gunnutz that have been to my place can attest to this btw , IF I add in the "gun BUILDING" you can add another 14k to that 50k . It is prob the most expensive , err.... "hobby" I have ever had:eek: It adds up quick , give yourself another 5 years and then add it all together, you'll have a minor coronary.... just go buy another gun then and you'll be just fine :p

Too true,
" I used to spend my money on Women and Beer and the rest I just wasted......."
It does add up fast, but definately a worthwhile "hobby" and you always have something to show for your "investment"
I think I need another gun..HaHa

Althought 50K sounds like a big number there are a number of fellows that have that much tied up in optics. Now if that was 50 a year that is a different story.
I too have spent a pile on guns and related accessories in the last 3 years, but now I'm starting to figure out which pieces will be the keepers and which ones can be sold off. FS
