What's the difference between a VZ-58 and a CZ-858?

I was looking to buy a CZ-858 "Canadian Edition" only to find no one has them in stock and vendors are telling me availability in early 2014! Then I came across to what looks like the same rifle, the CSA VZ-58. Looking at pictures of both I can't tell the difference between them and they take the same mags/ammo. So what really is the difference between these two rifles? I can find a few stores that have the VZ-58 in stock. Should I just buy this now or hold off until the CZ-858 becomes available? Please advise, thanks!

CZ 858 Tactical: A semi-automatic variant designed for the civilian market in Canada, assembled from unused parts from when production of the military versions ended. Available with standard (390 mm) barrel length on the restricted -4V version, or extended (482 mm) barrel length on the -2 version. The barrel is not chrome-lined in the -2 version unlike the military and -4V version. External components have a new varnish coat (identical to the coating used on original military rifles). A "Canadian" model is now also being offered based on the -2 version, featuring a real wood stock engraved with a maple leaf.

CSA vz. 58 Sporter: Available in .222 Remington, .223 Remington (5.56 NATO), or 7.62×39mm, these carbines were newly manufactured by Czech Small Arms, and not Česká zbrojovka. They came in Compact (190mm barrel, folding stock), Carbine (300 or 310mm barrel, folding stock), and Rifle (390 or 410mm barrel, fixed sporter stock) models. In addition there was a "Tactical" model chambered in .223 Remington, featuring a 410mm barrel, railed handguard, and collapsible buttstock. All featured synthetic handguards, although the 7.62x39mm Rifle model is available with either a synthetic or phenolic wood handguard.

The cz858 is cheaper, not as we'll machined as the Csa. The Csa comes with a tabbed bolt carrier to eliminate the gremlin the cz suffers from wich is basically the gun not recocking itself if the trigger is not release right after firing. The cz will come with beaver barf wood whereas the Csa usually has a black plastic stock. The finish on the cz is the original greenish gray while the csa is black. The CSa I think is tapped for a scope mount where the cz is reportingly to thin. The Csa is all new parts where the cz has a few parts off real vz58's this includes the gas piston, recoil spring cover, gas piston cover, mags, and the wood. If I were to buy another I'd wait it out for a chrome lined barrel version wich will be out soon.

get the cz 58 i have one and works perfect, looks better too. black not grey and has a cool adjustable stock. super accurate for what they are. I haven't fired the sks since i bought it. great gun to shoot beer cans. lots of fun.

I just bought a CSA VZ 58, love it, have sks also, have a lot of fun with them both. I was told I would love the 58, they were absolutely right. I have the sporter, and think its probably one of the best, so light to.

The only parts new on the CZ are the barrel and trigger group the rest is the real deal.
You can drill and run a side mount without any problems on the CZ.
The CZ paint is much tougher than the black CSA paint.
Both work perfect and are great firearms(7.62) the .223 seems to have some little probs.

Cant go wrong with the CZ or CSA ,as for which one is better....... original mil spec parts vs new parts.

Grab what ever version you can and dont look back.
