What's the difference between rem model 7 and 700?

Shorter barrels - 20" or 18 1/2" are standard, they are lighter, different action (based on the 700 but not the same) - limited variety of short action calibers.

Trigger is the same, but the bolt release and safety are slightly different. The original standard calibers in CM were 18.5", 20" for stainless - later versions were all 20" , magnums were 22". Then there were several less common variations like the whitetail, predator, FS, and xcr plus the custom shop stuff like the KS and MS.

Thanks all. So where do they stand in comparison to accuracy? Anyone using Model 7s for builds over the 700?
Is the model 700 the f250 to the model 7 the f150?

I prefer the 7 to the short 700 for my hunting rifles, but the 700 has way more accessories available for it. And is forsure much more common to see builds based on it.

And no the 700 is the f150, the 7 is the ranger. :)

Both can be "accurized" easily but as Double Gun mentioned, aftermarket accessories such as stocks etc will be more readily available for the 700. If you want a short, compact bush gun the model 7 is a nice option.

The 700 short action and the Mod 7 are both 2 lug bolt actions, but the similarity pretty much stops there. No parts are interchangeable, triggers are similar but not interchangeable, bolt spacing is different, scope mount bases are different...........I think maybe the followers may interchange but have never really checked it out, so I can't say for absolute sure. They are both excellent actions and either one makes a very nice rifle, the mod 7 being a tad lighter.
I have many of all 3 Rem actions, the mod 7 (7) mod 700 short (6) and mod 700 long (14) and they are without a doubt my favorite action to build on and hunt with.

As mentioned the triggers are interchangable, it's the bolt release and safety that aren't the same. Infact some aftermarket triggers that require your old safety and bolt release linkage are clearly marked 7/700. Also interchangeable are the followers and mag liners. And if we are at it, many short action 700 1-piece bases do fit a 7. The original rear hole on a model 7 is in the same place as the front hole on a 700short.
