I have an Ithaca 72 Saddle Gun. It's a nice solid little .22 that is no longer is made but I've been told that Henry's H001 is built off the same patent (same gun different name lower quality). If anyone knows more please let me know.

Thanks C.K

I think that the Henry is very good quality and a very accurate slick little rifle and well worth the price. The only negative I see are the sights. Seem very course.

Thanks Covey Ridge, but not quite what I'm after. I'm not looking for a .22 rifle nor comparing which is better to get of the two (my Ithaca 72 is the better gun trust me I've shot them both and so have a few others that own the Henry they all wanted to trade guns) but rather a manual and as the Ithaca 72 is an older gun I haven't had any luck finding a manual nor does Ithaca have any idea where I could find one unless someone is willing to sell one (still hoping). So as I mention if the Ithaca 72 and the Henry H001 are the same gun the manual for the H001 would be a good substitute to get.

I imagine they are pretty close to the same mechanism. Probably just different materials used to build.

Can't help you with a manual, but I'll just mention that the model 72 was made for Ithaca by Ermawerke in Germany. Maybe an internet search for that name might turn up something for you. I'm pretty sure that Erma sold the gun under their own name at one point in the U.S.

Good luck

John

I'll have to try that out I didn't get to many hits that weren't about should I get this guns, but back when I was deciding an article had a small foot note on one hit where the person who typed it thought that they had sold the patent to Henry Leverarms in 79 which is when Ithaca stopped making the 72 Saddle gun. Which I can't find any more so I was hoping one of the great CGN minds might know. Thanks for the help so far. I think I might have to just order a H001 manual and see just how close the two are. Even so if you find anything out please let me know still.

You could try getting in touch with Henry Arms and asking them to send you a current manual of their rifle. From what I understand the Ithaca 72 and the Henry are the same rifle.

In the past I owned an Ithaca Model 72 .22 rifle.Nice little rifle, my only complaint was that I found the front sight too big.The rifle itself worked great.

They might be built off the same design, but there is no guarantee that the 2 are identical in all respects. The Ithaca M72 saddlegun was built in West Germany by Erma Werke.

If you are looking for a manual for your mod 72, here is 2 options:

1. currently one for sale for about $6 + $2 shipping: search ebay.ca "ithaca 72"

2. you can download one for a $fee from this address, add www:
