What's the feedback on the new Winchester Model 70s?

A couple friends have the .375s on order. I wanted one too, but since I already have a couple of those I went the four five eight route. It should make a dandy Lott, if I can't get the velocity out of the Win Mag case.
Regarding the CZs, I like those except for the CZ USA "American" pattern stocks. They managed to take something that was a worldwide success for decades and make a thick overweight club out of it.

I don't know about the CZ550 but I did have a ZKK602 and a Winchester model 70 Super Express, both in 458WM. Between the two, my preference was to keep the model 70. To me it just seemed to be a little more refined.

Thanks for the insight fella's:D I will wait and see if I can get my hands on a new Model 70 Super Express and see how it looks. By the reviews given here I think it might be a great addition to my collection.

I have a new S.C. featherweight in 7-08. I've owned a few Classics and still have a Classic New Haven 270 WSM. Also own some pre-64's. My experience regarding the S.C. rifles seems to be a little different than most here. MY classic in the WSM feeds better, has a smoother cycling bolt than my new 7-08, The wood to metal fit and inletting is much tighter on the classics, the S.C. featherweight has very large gaps around the action, I can stick toothpics in them. The Classic featherweights I've owned have better metal finishing/polishing and blueing. I was able to a lighten, crisp and clean up trigger break on the classics easily, the S.C. new style trigger on my gun is grittier, creepier and heavier, does not adjust down the way I like, it reminds me of the triggers on the A-bolts. The safety on this one is very stiff, takes a lot of force to operate, Let a young lady at the range shoot the gun and she could not release the safety, she had to hand it back to me to release it so she could shoot. The classics I've had would generally put 3 or 5 shots under 1.5" frequently shooting tiny groups. They could be depended to shoot almost anything under 1.5". This new 7-08 averages 1.5"- 2.5" sometimes larger groups. I have only a little over 250 rounds shot with it. Factory rounds and handloads, 3 different powders, 5 different bullets I've tested, shooting off a concrete bench, adjustable front rest and rear bag. Honestly I'm not very impressed with this particular rifle.

i purchased a featherweight in 308. reasonably accurate nice smooth feeding action. i don't like the fact the bolt handle is a seperate peice from the bolt body and the extractor collar looks to be cheap stamped steel. overall though i really like the rifle and am probably just being picky. what are the odds of the bolt handle or extractor collar failing? probably nil.

Well I added a new Model 70 375 H&H Safari Express to the collection:D. I haven't shot it yet as it is fresh out of the box. Fit and finish is very good and the trigger is very crisp and about 3-4lbs. I am going to top it off with my Leupold VXIII 2.5-8x36 with Leupold quick release rings, but I may end up buying a VXIII 1.5-5x20 for it later on. I will do a range report when I get out. Here is some pictures....enjoy

How are they different from the pre-64s?

The only real knock on the pre 64 was that there was no ports to vent gas in the case of rupture, so they were actually kinda dangerous. The new ones have gas vents to divert the gases away from the shooter making them safer than the original. Still have the 3 position safety which I really like but I think the biggest improvement is probably the MOA trigger. It encorporates a 3-1 mechanical advantage, breaks is very clean with vertually undetectable overtravel.

I have a limited edition featherweight in 300wm and its a beauty. Fit and finish is excellent, very nice wood for a production rifle and it shoots sub MOA when I do my part. What more does a guy really need??

I Have the Mod 70 extreme weather in 300Win Mag. It's a really nice gun. It is my first rifle with CRF action. I have never held a pre 64 so I cant compare but I know this one is my favorite rifle. The balance is great. Good safety but a little noisy. It really clicks when you pop it forward. I found I can do it slowly if I bring my thumb up and hook the top of it a bit. The fit and finish are excellent. Trigger is crisp but a bit heavy but I think it can be adjusted just haven't tried doing it yet. I don't think I am a real good shooter but I have punched some nice 1 Moa groups. That is until my shoulder gets tired of being popped ;) I ordered some game reaper one piece rings/bases for it but they never came. :( was looking forward to those. It's been over 5wks. maybe they will still come.

I would love to see a compact version of this model!

I think KO has a nicer couch than RoadKill! :D

Seriously, all the new ones I have seen, handled, and shot are a notch above average. Love them all.

Now I have to go find a new couch to show mine off from.

I like my new m70, zero tweaking and practically no handload development. Shooting 3/4" 5 shot groups on average @ 100m

I would hope the all weather extreme versions would look and shoot that good too. Granted the stealth is more of a target gun with that heavy barrel, but dare to dream right?

I've got a New Haven M 70 in 7mmRM and it's a production sporter that came off the line just before the closure of the plant. It shoots the PMC 175's PSP really well, but does will not load and let me close the bolt with Federal 175's SP. I've put the two shells side by next to each other and the only difference is that the PMC bullet in 175 PSP has less taper then then the Federal 175 SP bullet. I'm not sure why this has happened, and while out white-tail hunting several weeks ago I tried to load the Federal 175 SP amoom loaded and the bolt wouldn't close. Maybe I had the safety in the wrong position...? I'm glad that I had both kinds of ammo on me, and, that the deer stuck around long enough so that I could load the PMC ammo so that I could bring it home to the freezer.

Fortunately, I was able to obtain a few boxes of PMC ammo that were on the shelves of two gun shops I visited and will use that stuff up till I need to reload. At which time I will have to finally break down and do a course on re-loading.

Also, the trigger lock has been amply oiled during my regular cleaning rituals but still has requires a fair bit of omph to move the safety from the Safe position to the fire position. Other then those two minor problems... It shoots acceptably well as a hunting rifle.
