Since few years, the future of 9mm seem to be compromised. Nato reseach for a new ammo like 4.6 or 5.7 to take the place of 9mm and the US are thinking about going back with the excellent .45acp.
Do you think 9mm are compromised by newest ammo like .40sw, .357sig or oldest ammo like .45acp??
What do you think about it?

Police and militaries are cheap, if they have large stocks of guns and ammo, that will be the deciding factor. the .45acp never caught on anywhere else. I suspect that .40cal might give it a run for it's money.

If body armour becomes super cheap, easy to make, get and hard to penetrate, then you might see a major shift

There will continue to be a large civilian demand in the US for 9mm because of the many good small guns suitable for CCW. But yes I can see the US forces going back to .45ACP. They went 9mm because is was NATO standard but the US seems to be less reliant on NATO nowadays so they may say the hell with it. just my .02s

I don't see the US military switching back to .45ACP en masse, as the 9mm is serving well. 9mm is doing just fine and I'm sure will be around and popular for decades to come.

9mm has moved into the position of my favorite pistol cartridge personally, edging out my old favorite, the .45ACP.

How great would it be to have a pistol chambered in 4.6, capable of holding 35+ rounds.....and be pinned to 10.

Probably not as great as holding a carbine capable of holding 50+ rounds...and be pinned at 5. :D
