I thought 30-06.But my budy who has is own gun shop told me 308 and 30-30 far outsells all other ammo.Is this just in my area? What do you think is the most popular big game caliber in Canada?

The mot popular cartridge in my opinion would be the 30-06 tied with the 308 for first place.

Secondly, tied are the 7mm mag and 300 mag.

third .270 and 30-30 also tied

Im not basing this on any data, and it's purely guessing.

I would say .303 British is far and away the most popular big game caliber here in Newfoundland, but only because there are so many Enfields kicking around. Lately, though, I've seen a lot of the "newer" calibers making an appearance, many of them larger ones like .300 Win Mag, .338 and .375. (Maybe we've imported rhinoceros, and no one told me. )

Id say

1st - 30-06/300 win mag

2nd - 7mm Rem Mag

3rd - 270 Win/308 Win

then 243, 30-30, 303 british, 338 mag

In Southern Ontario, where I am, the most popular Caliber would have to be the 270. We have a Calibre restriction here of .275 or less. Farther north, I would think 30-06 or 30-30, but I could be wrong on this.

7.62mm

Oh ya, 308's pretty poular too.

Here in the Yukon, we see a lot of .338s and .375s but I'd have to say the most common rounds locally are the .300 mags, .30/06 and 7mm mags.
There are a couple of local dealers on here, maybe they will tell us what they sell the most of.
Here unlike most places in the country though there are a lot of big guns. It's nice to see .416 Rigby, .458 Lott and .458win mag on the shelves of some of the shops.

Just going by the brass scattered around at the ranges here, .223 is by FAR the most popular, followed by 7.62x39 then 308. Pretty much tied after that are 30-06, 270, 30-30, 303, 7mm RM and 300 WM.

The folks I hunt with primarily use the boring ol '06, but there're a few guys with 7mm's. One fellow uses a 375 for everything

.30-06 followed very closely by .308. The .300 Win Mag & .270 are about a tie, and .30-.30 - .303 Brit. not far behind. On the edge of the deer/moose transition. The 300 WSM is also coming along.

I've seen a pile of 7 Rem Mags around the last couple years, followed by the 300 mags, short mags all the way to the big ones.

Seeing more 45-70's all the time too.

Most people I know that I hunt with pack the 308 Win, 243 Win or the 'ol 06.

1. 30-06 Spring or 270 Winchester

2. 7RM

3. 308/303

4. 300WM

5. 338WM

7RM seem to the most popular choice with anyone that targets anythign larger than deer these days.:)

Boring calibers here. 30/06, .308, .270, .303, 30/30

People just look at me when I say I shoot a 35Whelen, 257Roberts, 300H&H.

.

popular's

12 and 20 gauge slugs. We are in a WMU that is shotgun, muzzleloader, crossbow and bow only.

We can use rifles on coyotes, gophers, badgers, foxes etc in the same WMU. Idiotic rules......you bet:dancingbanana:  :dancingbanana: .

I do my hunting in northern BC. My personal favorite is the 35 Whelen but I'd say the 338 win mag is the most common. If it weren't for the grizzlies there would be no need for anything bigger than 30-06.

Well, I can't speak for others from my area, but in our hunting groupe we pretty much have a even split of 308, 270 and 30 06 calibers. Interesting fact though, we all own 303 Brits as back ups! Guess there is still something good to be said about those old Lee Enfields ;)
