Whats the recommended shot size

This is a subject that just keeps on rolling.
I have used 7 1/2 when I was younger and had shoulders c/w 1 1/8 oz 3 dram load and now being older and wiser shoot 7/8 oz 8 shoot @ 1200 FPS.
If I miss it has never been the shell it is the connection between my ears that malfunctioned.
The Olympic load is just less (or is it a touch more 24 grams anyway) than this for shot I believe however the shot is travailing faster. Harder target and more speed so if it works for these guys and gals it must be good enough for me.
Remember the most targets you will hear LOSS called on happened between your ears and have no connection to guns and ammo.
Have fun and concentrate.

For Skeet use #9's or #8's (7 1/2's or skeet will work but because the shot is bigger you'll have less pellets to spread on those crossers). For Trap, I've always used #7 1/2's for the better hitting power of the larger shot. However, #8's will work just fine as long as the clay isn't getting out there too far. And for sporting clays, I use a combination of #8's and #7 1/2's, depending on the presentation.

All in all - you won't go wrong with #8 shot. Remember- it's all in your choke tube selection and how far the shots are going to be.

Use the size/load/brand that works in your gun with the choke you'll use for a particular game. Maybe in time you'll decide on different sizes for different games/wind/etc, but still it'll depend on working well in your gun. For starters, any 7 1/2 or 8 won't be the limiting ingredient at all, providing it patterns. Any shell can produce poor patterns in any gun, but especially cheap ones need to be tested out. No substitute for the patterning board.
