Hi guys.

I was at the car show today and I saw one of those electric fat tire bikes that I see being advertised for hunting.

I am not sure of the rules if you were to use a electric bicycle. It may be a stupid question but I really am curious.

Do bicycles count as vehicles?

Thanks for the input.

Used a rifle scabbard on my mountain bike for grouse hunting. Secured it with quick ties so it pointed upward behind the seat, quick cheap and easy. Treated it like any vehicle and loaded after dismounting.

In regards to bullets in the chamber or loaded magazine in rifle , bicycles are considered a vehicle the same as a truck, so you must be unloaded, etc. until off the bike. Great article in Bicycling last month about a bow hunter who only hunts by bike.

If it is powered by a motor, it becomes a motor vehicle. You can have all of the "bullets" you want in the chamber or magazine and be legal, but you can't have loaded ammunition in either while in or on a motor vehicle.

Those are the regulations in Ontario, too. Anything listed as a "vehicle" under The Highway Traffic Act also applies to The FWCA.

In southern sask we can carry firearms in trucks cars vans but not on four wheelers or snow mobiles during a big game season but in northern sask you can carry your rifle in a case on four wheeler and snowmobile. it would depend if it was considered an off road vehicle or not in the south I guess.

A bicycle is considered a "vehicle", but not a "motor vehicle". This means that you need to unload your rifle while riding because it is a vehicle, but you can ride right past road closure signs because it is not a motor vehicle. Also invest in bike shorts and a quality seat because with your hunting pack on there will be considerably more down pressure on your ass.

Edit: Just saw the electric part. That makes it a motor vehicle, just like a car or a dirt bike. Mountain bikes are what I thought OP was referring to.

Ammo in a magazine is fine (in BC) as long as the mag is not in the gun.

Bullets in the chamber would be pretty useless without a primed case full of powder included.

But if you wanted to ride around with just a bullet in the chamber, it would probably not be considered loaded.:d

So then a canoe is considered a vehicle? I have a loaded shotgun in my canoe while quietly paddling for ducks. Awesome jump shooting. I dont think here in Manitoba a bicycle is considered a motor vehicle. Only a fool would ride a bike with a loaded gun though...

Typically boats need to be motorized. In some areas the motor needs to be out of the water before you shoot in others it needs to be dismounted from the transom. In most areas from what I understand shooting from a canoe is OK as long as the target isn't a large game animal swimming.
