What's the approx. value of a hardwood Ruger stock with stainless band and swivels, for a standard barrel? Very good condition. Assuming not walnut, but 'hardwood'.

Grouse Man...can you post pics of the stock?
Is it OEM or aftermarket?
Nice grain lines?
By your general description I'd est. $65 to $80 depending on the style.

The non-walnut factory hardwood stocks are birch, or they used to be anyways. In next to new condition I don't think it's worth more than $40. Lots of them have been sold on the EE, as people immediately remove them in favour of aftermarket stocks.

MD...Ruger birch stocks never came with metal buttplates. ONLY maple and walnut ones did.
Are you sure it was birch?
How old was it?

Sorry, maybe it wasn't birch then....maybe it was maple:

Wierd....could have sworn it was metal...cold to the touch, sounded like metal when I tapped it....but then again, I only handled it for about 10 seconds before taking it off the rifle and selling it.

Not To Hijack but it's on topic for this thread.

What are the different woods that the DSP stocks were offered in?
I did a build with a Walnut one, sold it, Missed it and am now doing a new build with one that I was sold as Birch.
After stripping it seems that it might actually be white birch and now has change how I'm going to finish it.

Hey Innercity!
The DSP stock has been produced in both birch/maple and American walnut.
You can mostly tell what it is buy the grain lines and by taking off the buttplate and looking at the natural colour of the wood underneath.
Light colour are the birch/maple, orange/brown are the walnut.
