A friend of mine asked me to find out what this rifle is worth. He doesn't have a computer and is mostly a lever gun type anyways. :)

Marked "7.62" on the receiver.

I have NO IDEA of the value. ......... Many thanks.

Not sure this will help, but I found a 1988 International Firearms Catalogue from when they were in Montreal (ah the good old days....). here is their description:

Egyptian Rashid Semi Auto Rifle, Cal. 7.62x39.
Manufactured by the Ordnance Factory of the United Arab Republic. Until recently, used by the Egyptian Forces. Super rare. Only 6500 pcs. ever produced. Combines best features of the SKS and Hakim. Folding blade bayonet. Detachable 10 shot magazine.

Good to VG conditions: $249.95
Special selection add: $10.00

The one you're showing looks particularly well kept.
Proof, it still retains the small spring wire keepers that secure the action screws.
It is worth much more than the price mentioned.
I would say start around $400.00 for a clean specimen and go up. About the same price as a very clean VZ-52/57, maybe more.
And these rifles can be very able shooters. Due to the direct gas impingement actuation, there is almost no torque transmitted on the barrel and it shows on targets.
Here is an evaluation target I shot at the end of the 2006 shooting season with my all-matching newly acquired specimen: 2 five shot volleys, sitting, rapid fire at 50 meters (yes, I know, I tacked my target upside down... ).
If you can buy it, by any means, do it! but keep it in that untouched state: they are becoming rarer every day.

Thanks for the replies.

Upon inspection of the bbl I discovered that the last 3/4" of the bbl appears to be free bore w/o any rifling present. Is this the norm?

...... And BTW, the bore is excellent! :)

That "counterbore" is not! it is the way they were made with a recess deep into the sight and bayonet holding piece. That way, no danger of significant damage to the barrel crown from steel cleaning rods or dropping the thing on its end.
If the bore is good, jump on that rifle! Don't delay!:D

Saw 3 at shows over maybe the last 5 years.

One was around $300 but had no magazine with it. The other 2 were $500-$700

Bought the one to add to my collection of Egypt. Awesome fun shooter. Definitely one of my favourites. Probably why they're so hard to find, nobody wants to sell them!

SuperCub,
I bought one from a fellow Gunnutz member last fall, shape was similar to yours. I think I paid $650 for it (could be a wee bit more, i forget about those details so easily....). WRT the bore, ditto what pervers pepere says. Your bore is correct and the way you describe it is the way those barrels were made.
Cheers,
Luc
