It belongs bolted to a "T" model No4 Mk1 sniper Enfield...preferably a LongBranch. She's Canadian issue after all.

Value will greatly depend on function/glass clarity ect. That, and the buyer will need to match the mount (repro's are available...but original should be the goal IMO).

No it doesn't. Enfield No. 4 Ts used the No. 32 scope. The No. 42 would be attached to artillery pieces. This is rather useless as a rifle scope as it has no internal adjustment, and thus cannot be zeroed without a custom made bracket that allows for external adjustments. Neat find, but not terribly useful or valuable. They do however contain a large number of compatible parts than an be used to repair or restore the much more valuable No. 32 scopes.

Wait...what!? googling ;)

*edit* According to the folks at milsurp.com the No 42 wasn't a sighting scope for artillery. You're thinking of the No 78, which was used for sighting in an 84mm gun. It also has a completely different ranging type reticule. Both the No32 Mk1 and No42 Mk1 were "telescopes" for the T model No4 Mk1's.

{There is also a No53 scope, but I'm unclear as to what that was used for.}

Plinker, he is right. It is a good parts donor for a No32. The No42 is not a rifle scope. It has no external adjustment. Someone like Wheaty who refurbishes No32s could probably find 1000 uses for it's components though, or it would have value to an optics collector. Nice find nonetheless!
