I put a couple hundred rounds down range last week with my son and noticed my action was loose...

went home and torqued the action screws... and that sh!tty pot metal tinfoil that Savage calls bottom metal warped! WTF?

Any CGN members making their own plates? If so, pls PM me! I like this rifle, it eats anything and puts the bullets where I aim, but I can't live with the bottom "metal".

Never had that issue with my Mlk II, have you tried contacting savage about it?

Lol the metal is junk.
Any serious mk shooter will tell you the torque on the plate effects groups. Thus there are aftermarket plates.
please ho to rimgire central to confirm what I just said and get more help!

Just ordered one from "r204" ... $22 shipped is a fair price.

I always support a fellow CGNer before ordering from the big guys.

Savage makes a nice rimfire rifle... too bad the bean counters cut some corners.

Most of the rifle is very good. Just cheap bottom metal. The trigger guard isn't much better.

the fit and finish turned me off, and I just can't get into the Tupperware stock that savage went to on the rimfires, they could otherwise own the market but still chose not to

mine is the BTVS with the nice laminate thumbhole stock and a heavy stainless bull barrel. The sh!tty bottom metal stands in stark contrast to the rest of the rifle... plainly obvious that Savage cut corners with the bottom metal.

Zinc pest. A sure sign that Savage is cheaping out on their zamak quality control. Squires Bingham trigger guards all suffer from zinc pest. Should be easy to replace with another comtaminated trigger guard! :p

You're confused... Savage doesn't use zamac... that is Henry... and they have fewer problems with zamac than with many other alloys and plastics... zamac probably adds to Henry's incredibly smooth action.

Had I known that someone here sold these bottom plates I would have bought one. Myself, I just made my own. A visit to Home Depot bought some thick scrap metal. 20 minutes with a drill press and a bench grinder. Done.

I had to get new bottom metal as I was putting my MkII action in a Boyd's "Tacticool" stock. I just made my own (trigger guard, too) out of 1/8" cold-rolled steel plate. Didn't take long, and it's very, very strong.
