What's wrong with the G17c?

I don't see a lot of people with these. Is it the price premium or that it would be in a different class in IPSC as opposed to the G17?

I think the G17C can't be used in production due to its compensator, and probably because 9mm does not really require a compensator (low muzzle lift already if you ask me)

i see used glock 17c models selling in the low 700 to 600 dollar range. Compensators suck for night shooting. And do you really need a compensator for a glock 9mm, I think not.

I think that fallacy has been put to rest a long time ago.

Yeah. Those big flashes spouting off the top of the slide between the sights as shown in your avatar really improves the sight picture.

Have you done much shooting in the dark?

Based on that logic the flash hider on an AR would leave you blinded while shooting without one wouldn't? The flame off or a non ported 9mm is no worse. A split second will not leave you blinded either way.

Porting spews stuff when the bullet is still in the barrel. It produces a big friggin flash. A flash hider diffuses the blast once the bullet has left the barrel and reduces the flash.

Have you done much shooting in the dark?

The first time I shot my AR in the dark I was sorely disappointed. No flash at all with the standard A2 flash hider. So I switched to my M44 and lit the range up.:)

I could be wrong but I don't know if its allowed in open either .
The ports mandate open class .
But you have to make 160 power factor I believe and I thought 9mm was banned to go major or open ?
who knows I could be wrong .

I always thought that 'tar was photoshopped...anyway, I don't think that there's anything really wrong with them as long as you're not into IPSC but I don't think the comp really helps that much...there's not much muzzle flip with the G17 anyway. If someone was looking for a 17 and found a 17C for a good price I'd say go for it.

I have owned my G17C for about 5 years now... when shooting I never notice the "V" flames, nor do I ever see the muzzle flash. I do a lot of night shooting...and there is little to no difference in the flash... the flash is instantaneous in bloth the G17 and G17C... your sight picture is lost with both pistols for a short period of time...

Those who do a lot of low light/night shooting will understand... it takes awhile for your eyes to adjust to the low/no light conditions... after they do and you fire...both the instantaneous muzzle flash from the barrel and/ports will temporarly blind the shooter, making it extremely hard to aquire the sights again.

The Glock 17C is really a bit of a silly model IMHO. 9mm does not need a compensator, and the compensator leaves you with 15% less velocity than a non compensated Glock, so when you are talking 9mm this does not make much sense in a ballistic context.

I agree that the 17C does not result in a huge flash (but this depends very much on the ammo you use - try using American Eagle TMJ!). However today I was using a 31C and this thing would almost certainly blind you temporarily at night.

9mm is fine for major in open..if you can get it up to 160pf, otherwise you will be shooting open minor...definetly not my first choice!

HKfan...to me it makes perfectly good sense if you look at it from the hypothetical home defence situation. There are those who are worried about over penetration and it is well suited for a quick double tap. But then again guns are never used for defensive purposes.

If you NEED a comp to hit the target.... then you NEED to hit the gym.

Its not a matter of Needing a comp to hit the target, its just another model of Glock, just another feature, just another gizmo

My wife seems to like her G17C with an OKO reflex sight, its fun to shoot as well.

I have used it to shoot the Open Division of IPSC, and my Son has used it as well in the Open Division.

Hit the gym...errrrr no :p
