What's wrong with these Cno7 chests I bought today?

...

I talked with a retired weapons tech who told me about tearing down sniper rifles into their spare parts while employed at 202 workshop. Odds are that 80L8092 no longer exists as a sniper rifle. It may exist as a regular no4 mind you, some were converted back to regular no4s and issued to the rangers.

About 10 yrs ago I spoke to a milsurp shooter and collector, ex military, but who worked for the RCMP's Firearms Dept, which immediately soured me on pursuing the friendship. He had access to the Rangers' No.4 serial number database. Rumours were "out there" of a No.4T. He mentioned making an extra effort to track down and examine that particular rifle. False alarm.

I did a little scraping on the box I am keeping. Any markings I did find were on the middle layer of tan paint. On the very bottom layer there were just the original "chest SA no15" markings.

Here are a couple shots of the markings and what I could make them out to be:

Above is the back of the chest...the outer layer of paint stripped off nicely leaving the original paint and marking.

The end of the chest....just the letters CAN.

Top and front of the chest. Top had the number 4422-23-24, along with other numbers and letters I could not decipher. The front of the chest had the number 50020 along with some of the shipping data.

The markings on the lid proved slightly more interesting. Careful deciphering makes it look like it was shipped to "officer commanding XX Canadian training B Dundurn Saskatchewan" At least thats what I think it says, some of the letters just aren't going to come back. Unfortunately, nothing that I could recognize as a Cdn serial number came up.

I am going to get some paint mixed up in the same color as the light ollive paint, strip the box down, and repaint it to include the "chest SA " markings.

I tried to get a shot of the KML marking, but I think I am going to have to play with the camera a bit more to get a clearer photo.

The only thing I think that may be wrong is that there were no rifles in these boxes. Other than that thumbs up buddy :)
