Ok please try to stay on topic here. I don't want hand load recipes thanks (just not set up for it and wont be anytime soon) Just want to know what commercial 308 ammo or 762 is giving you guys the tightest group at 100 yards? Want to truly test the MOA of my build. Sorry if this has been done over and over but the threads seem to get hijacked and turn into what you can do to accuratize the m14 or a fight about the similarities and diffs between 308 and 762. lets try not to do that. Your experience is appreciated.

Test MOA of your build? SIMPLE:

Extend two lines intersecting from the center of front sight to rear widest point of stock.
Measure angle with protractor and distance with measuring tape, convert to MOA.

Hmm.

First off, if you really want to test the MOA of your build you'll want to find a sweet handload for it, swear to gawd.

Second; rested, doing my part, minimal hopups (improved flash hider and front sight, m14.ca spring guide), Norinco copper-wash ammo I get about 4". Really like my very plain '14!

I've test fired the majority of the rifles I've built/repaired/tuned with federal power shok 150 gr. On "average" I've found it to be the best performer overall for reliability/accuracy for the norinco barrel twist rate.
Of course match ammo or tailored reloads might be top of the heap but that's another topic.

4 to 5 inches with M305 in original stock using ChiCom Norinco ammunition at 100 meters. grouping was reduced to less than half that when switching to Sage EBR stock. grouping further shrunk to 1 - 1.5 MOA with carefully prepared hand loads in a 10 shot group.

I have had some odd groups with Barnual 7.62x51. One group is 4", the next is 2". Not sure what's up with that and its the only ammo I have that does that. Over the years, I've learned to not take group sizes very seriously. It can really frustrate your day if you keep getting 5" when you usually get 3 - 4 all the time. I've learned to just have fun and put holes in paper. My shooting enjoyment has gone up by 110% at least.

Best I've achieved (with irons) were 3" 5x round groups at 100m with Privi Partizan 145 gr FMJ, prone.
That's with a 2009 Polytech bedded in a USGI fibreglass stock, with all the usual tweaks, plus M1 rear sight and upgraded spring guide.

I considered it my finest day of shooting to date with that rifle.

Someday I will handload...someday.

Happy New Year!

that's a good attitude. I've always enjoyed going to the range for target shooting. of course I'd like to improve myself and my shooting skills, but I know everyone has good, bad days and everything in between, so that's why I take a few different guns - if I'm having a mediocre day with a rifle, chances that my pistol shooting will be ok and enjoyable

I learned this a few times over. One time when a friend of mine bought a Ruger Mini 14. He was getting frustrated with it. Even with a scope it wasn't very accurate. One day I brought parchment paper to the shooting range. They're big. 2 feet by 3 feet. I told him, just shoot and don't worry about measuring your groups. Placed one at 50, 100, 150, 200, and 300. He now has a lot of fun shooting with that Mini-14. We both shoot a lot together and we both start off with accuracy testing and then end it with plink shooting.

I actually play a skill building game at the shooting range with clay birds. Place them all around the range and then you and a buddy play "HORSE." One of you start off, you pick a clay bird, shoot it, and if you hit, then your buddy has to pick a clay bird either equal distance or further away. If they hit, then you have to hit a clay bird equal distance or further away from their hit. If at anytime you miss, you get a letter added to your HORSE and the duel is restarted. You loose if you spell out HORSE. The looser has to either buy lunch or a case of beer. My shooting range is isolated. Not many people use it so I can get away with stuff like this. Others may have to find a pit to play a game like this. My favorite gun to use for this is my M305.

Just an FYI
