I just bought a Henry 45-70 on sale at one of the big outdoors store. Doing my online research but looking for Canadian input.

With so many choices, from your hunting experience what is your favourite 45-70 factory ammo for hunting Ontario black bear and deer? Hunting range is 50 yards or less.

Thanks

My favorite .45-70 load involves a barrel and action change, and if necessary stock, to a .270, 7mm, .30, .338, or .375 designed in the smokeless era. It seems easier to just sell the .45-70 and buy something more effective though.

Ardent, my friend, quick question..

Did you take a dickhead pill or something?

Scotch and New King proponents aside... the Hornady LeveRevolution 325 FTX has proven to be very accurate out of any .45/70 I have tried it in... and has plenty of punch.

I use only hand loads now but plain old Remington express 405 gr fnsp at the speed smell will work just fine.
For under 2000 fps its one of the best bullets out there for expansion and penetration. I still load that bullet in my 45/70 and 458 wm. However I use hard cast and woodlieghs as my primary
