I just bought a 6" SW 17-3.

I haven't received it yet but I assume that it is a 3 screw with a pinned barrel.

Which is the best K22 based on overall quality, accuracy and trigger?

There are good ones and bad ones from all eras of production. The lockwork before the 1950 changes was better for double action shooting, but the post-1950 short-action lockwork is often better for single-action shooting.

The fitting and finish took a down-turn in the late 1960's and early 1970's but improved again in the late 1970's and later.

Some find that the full underlug barrels in 6" and 8 3/8" are too muzzle-heavy and others like them better--is a matter of presonal preference.

Most of them shoot well once you find which ammo they like. I have owned 7 or 8 M-17's and M-18's and only had one that I thought was not particularly accurate. I have had a few of the J-frame .22's and never found them to be as accurate as the K-frames. (including an M-35 target model--but in it's defence it was well used).

FWIW, 44Bore

Model 17

I once had a Model 17 with 6" barrel. Loved it & should've never sold it... These days the only .22 wheelgun I have is a little S&W "J" frame Model 63 [stainless] 4" barrel. It's no Model 17 but will have to do until I find another Model 17... :(
