I carry a Browning Buck Mark Carbine alot... and also a Ruger M77/22 International... they are both compact and move easily through brush, and are "grouse-head" accurate out to 50 yards.

I really like my Ruger American Rimfire Compact. I have many 22 rimfires, bolts, levers and semi-autos but the compact is the one that always goes for a walkabout.

I've got a few different vintage single shot youth sized "boy's rifles" in .22. I just like working on and shooting them.

If I were the sort that carried around the woods in the hope of finding a rabbit or grouse or the like I think I'd opt for one of those thanks to the lightness and smaller size. A modern version would be something like a Chiappa Badger or similar.

I think I'd use a sling or make up a simple over the shoulder sleeve holster for it to avoid having to carry in hand. I may be wrong but I suspect that a common cause of broken rifle stocks right near the action is from the users tripping and falling and landing on the gun which then snaps right at the wrist area. Something a sling and wearing the gun on our backs can avoid.

I could be wrong but I think it's fair to say

Winchester-Cooey mod 600. It's old as dirt in excellent condition and more fun to shoot than a barrel of monkeys.

Right there with you, mine was a Christmas gift from my Mom and Dad in 1972.Can't imagine how many rounds have gone through it, still love to take it out every chance I get.
