I'm looking to grab me my first restricted. I decided to go handgun for the first.
I'm curious to know what everyones handgun of choice is?

I'll second the 226. I don't think I could Pick one thing I dislike about it even if I tried to. Except the price maybe, but I still won't complain. Worth every penny.

Jericho 941
They come in 9mm, 40S&W and 45ACP. Inexpensive with an excellent trigger pull.

CZ 75/85's are another good choise.

Many will recommend a Glock, if you like lightweight plastic guns.

But the all time best blast for your buck is a newer model Norinco 1911.
Opinions may vary!

Sig 226 or Beretta 92FS. If you're not used to shooting centerfire ammo from a handgun, maybe a .22LR Ruger MKIII or GSG 1911 to start with to get some fun-damentals down so you don't grow bad habits like flinching etc. Just say'n.

Sig 226, and then another 226 after that (because you can't have just one, they're too awesome a gun)

Depending on what your budget may be you will find an excellent match. If this is your first handgun I would recomend an inexpensive one like the norinco 1911 they come in 9mm 45 acp and 40 sw. I would recomend the 9 mm as it is generally more affordable. Use the rest of the money to purchase ammo.

When I buy a pistol I have only one general rule I want to have money for ammo. Keep in mind that at every trip to the range you will use up at a minimum 100+ rounds. Otherwise it aint worth the trip.

Buy something you can shoot not put in your safe.

Goodluck

I don't think any of us, members here, have only one handgun of choice, as shoes and boots they each have their specific utility for different tasks. Also our choice is not necessarily what you want/need or might be willing to spend (gun and ammo) for a first gun!
Mine are (for the moment) S&W 500, Colt SAA, Python and 1911-.45...And I wouldn't suggest any of those for a first gun!
You should first decide on your budget and for what the handgun will be used. (learn how to shoot, plinking, extreme precision, rapid fire, etc.)
I am probably old-school but I think that every new shooter should start with a revolver, to learn and practice single and double action, trigger control etc.....22 and .38 are excellent calibres and are cheap! Then move up to semi-auto and big bores!
Finally you should visit gun shops/shooting ranges to try a few guns to see what fits your hand best and is most comfortable.

OK

For 3-gun? CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow
Practice? CZ 75B SA
Sheer fun? Colt Gold Cup in .45ACP

I'm in the "no plastic guns" group. I like steel in my hand no matter the calibre. #### and lock (no decocker) is also important to me. What okcorral said is all true though. Every single one of us is different. You might hate all the handguns I like due to calibre choice, hand size and what you want it to do. :D
