If you guys are shooting blackpowder and just seating the bullets with no neck tension then you must be using a crimp?
Any of you guys using grease wads behind bullet?
Example melt lube in a pan. Let it cool and harden about 1/8" thick. Use loaded cartridge with a cardboard wad pressed over powder. Use loaded case like a cookie cutter to place lube wad over cardboard wad. Then seat bullet without squeezing the lube wad.
I'm just making my bullet lube out of crisco and beeswax. Mixture depends on time of year.
Years ago I was using these lube wads with paper patch bullets but I never tried them with grease grooved bullets and I'm thinking I might.
At first I was going to make homemade wonder wads but local wool felt does not exist.

Most of my rifles I just shoot fireformed cases with no sizing, but I when I do size cases I always use very little neck tension. Typically I anneal the cases well, then I'll size with the sizer die backed out 3 turns. Then I use custom expander plugs to expand the case mouth to either 0.001" under the bullet diameter, or right at bullet diameter. in my 45-90fof instance, I have a slip fit load with a .459 bullet, and a 0.001" neck tension load with a .458" bullet. In my 45-100 I expand to 0.458" using a 0.458 bullet. I would use skip fit in that gun, but a fireformed case won't accept a .459" bullet, and a .458" isn't quite snug enough. In my 40-65's they always shot best with no sizing.
Oh , one more thing I should mention. If I use neck tension the I use a Shiloh Inline seater die to seat the bullet. For some reason you don't read about these much, but they make pretty much perfect ammo with close to zero runout. Quite a bit better than my Redding Competition micrometer seating dies.
