Wheelers gunsmithing screwdriver set

I have a set - for me they are worth it. Some unique bits though most could be considered generic. I like the idea they are all together in a convenient package and it ensure my gun tools don't get mixed in with all the other ones.

I've had the smaller Wheeler set and they have not let me down or buggered any screws up so far. Just purchased their new 21 pc. set of metrics and torx bits.

They are not so good ,several bits broke...too soft..............Made in China....Harold

I was just looking at the 43 pc set. No specialty spanner bits. Really don't need them.

I was mounting a scope last night and I didn't have out of all the allen keys ( 100's of loose ones ) and allen key sets ( 3 metic and STD set ) a proper bit for these millett rings.

In my experience they are soft.

mmmm. mine are anything but "soft", I have never had one "twist' or curl but have broke the whole front row of the smallest bits, always on the first "teardown' of one Uberti or another right out of the box...they have some big strong dudes doing their assembly...cant blame the bits at all, I had a lot of pressure on them when they broke.

My only complaint is that contrary to what Mbogo says I cant get anybody from Wheeler to even sell me replacements (I have replaced the small bits from another source but they do "twist", wish I could get "originals").

My under standing with gunsmith bits is they are to break before they damage the screw. That is the way they are designed.

I have the big set and love it, I have lots of older guns and can match up the propper flat blade to fit screws with the kit, well worth it to me to not mark up the gun by having the propper fitting bit, I would buy it again no hesitation.

I picked up the 23 pc kit a few years ago. It worked so well that I recently bought the big 87 pc kit. Now I've got a tip that fits anything I can find.

So far nothing has broken on me. But I'm the sort that does not believe in over tightening. We're working on small gun screws, not bolts from the underside of a combine. The only times I've had a screwdriver bend or snap on me was when working on a piece of gear that was new to me and some previous gorilla had tightened the snot out of the fastener.

I've had the 102 piece kit on my bench for 4 yrs or so now. I bought mine from "budget shooter supply" before you could buy them anywhere (or so it seems).

I've never broken a bit from the set, but all the smallish flat blades are bent like pretzels! Usually taking out smallish seized screws. I haven't stripped any screws yet (that weren't buggered/bubba'd already).

The "bent" bits have been replaced by bits from brownelles, so I'm in good shape now. I would reccomend the kit to an occasional tinkerer, but not a G-smith.....

My $.02

Gunsmith screwdriver bits ARE worth it. Slotted screwdrivers from home depot etc are not good to use on guns - they are generally tapered instead of parallel, which can cause you to ruin the edges on the slots of your screws. I'd say it's worth it, I like mine....

yea the lack of metric allen keys, and a less than stellar selection of torx bits, are my biggest gripe.

i'd actually like to find some slightly oversized torx bits, such as T16, T21, etc. I find a lot of screws are slightly oversized compared to the standard bits.

Well I just bought the Torque wrench and the 21 pc. The super wide flatheads are saving my bacon. I guess I could get a couple allen bits for metric. Might have some space to put them in. And pick up a second handle.

I have the 40 bit set and they have serviced me well, no broken bits. I had a lyman screwdriver set that the bits would just snap and break. Can't remember where on the net that I saw individual Wheeler bits for sale.
