So the last while has been absolutely terrible for calling with over 20 dud stands.
So when I got permission for a ranchers deadpit I was stoked! To my dismay it was in extremely heavy bush that is impossible to sneak on
I hatched a plan to sit on well traveled trails waiting for coyotes coming and going from the deadpit in the hopes of catching em on their way to bedding areas.
Early morning I crunched my way to where I suspected coyotes were traveling.
Upon sitting down I cursed myself for leaving the shotgun in the truck.
To my left 40 yards away was a hard packed trail out of the bushes and in front of me was a lane 100 yards to the front where it was suspected there was another trail.

15 minutes in i was cursing any and all persons having to do with reporting the weather as my scent began slowly wafting near the deadpit.
Eventually the weather smartened up and worried my spot was blown I lip squeaked to see if anything was still around. sure enough in less than a minute shadows began moving my way through the bush.
Right at the edge of the bush the coyote locked up staring straight at me. He swapped ends and tore off through the bush. Mad at myself for sitting too high on the hill and skylining myself I sent some pup distress through the bush in a last ditch effort.
Then things got nuts.
2 more came to the edge and swapped ends after seeing me. Then 2 more poked through and I popped the biggest one of the pair.
What followed was some of the worst shooting I have had in a long time. Coyotes blew out of the bush everywhere 5 more rounds were sent at moving and standing coyotes alike and nothing fell down.
At least I know to bring a shotgun now. Going to let this spot cool for a while and hopefully do it again!
