I was just wondering when they stopped makeing it because I have what looks like a mosin nagant but it has a fold out bayonet and a 21 inch barrel stamped with a date of 1954 , I purchased it about 10 years ago , is it a repro ???? it was brand new in the factory packing grease . I also have a 91/30 they look identical accept for the shorter barrel .

Chinese were the last to make the Mosin-Nagants, they manufactured the M-44 carbine up to 1962/63 I seem to recall.

If it's a Polish M44 (pics of markings would be useful here,) then it would be very accurate indeed. Dunno if you reallyw ant your daughter to use it, though. Mosins have a big bite at full size, and the little M44 carbines are known to be extremely loud and painful on people who don't have shoulders like elephant hide.

Please don't butcher the thing, though. Polish M44s are hard to find... To bubba one will earn you a seat in gunsmith hell.

I second this. You won't gain anything by putting a synthetic stock on it. (in fact it will ruin its resale value). Drilling and taping it it will also ruin its resale.

If you want something for your daughter, go buy her a savage axis with scope in .243. It will be in the $350 neighbourhood.

EDIT: You could sell it on the EE and it would cover most of the cost of the new rifle. I'm not sure what the going rate of an M44 is.

They have a lot of kick. If your daughter can handle it, you can order the needed stock and mount from hical.ca, they have an add in the Milsurp parts exchange.

I have a Scope PU mosin that is very accurate, with and without it's scope.

thanks for the info guys , any ideas how accurat they are . I am thinking of putting a scope and synthetic stalk on it for the daughter .

Get your torches gentlemen!

Buy something bubba'd already if that is the route you cannot get off of.

There are plenty other non collectable rifles out there, please don't butcher a milsurp they arent making anymore of.

Please don't hurt that rifle.
If the rifle you have is in good shape, I would pay you $300 and cover the shipping. Private message me if your interested.
I feel bad now......... Ok I'm over it.

Ok everyone calm down . I was just thinking of putting a stock and scope on it . If i do go that way i will do it to my older 91/30 thats a little rough . I received the m44 as a gift on my 18th birthday it was brand new never fired I am now 38 . It was purchest from sir . It has been in the safe for most of its life ( 1 box of shells throught it ) so its mint . I will not be selling it as it does hold sentamental value .
