So I'm making this thread today in regards to collecting sks rifles. But having myself nearing the 20 piece mark.. when is enough, enough? I personally cannot get enough of these things. They're light, reliable, easy to use, easy to clean. Now the only thing that's really stopping me from over indulging myself completely is the price point to which they are now. Some of the Russians are going for almost $300 now and don't get started on the "super grades" or even the Yugo's. At least seemingly no one wants the Chinese and that makes me content.

So if you're reading this thread, when is enough, enough for you? Am I crazy? I've heard stories about M1 Garands being $150 back in the day. Will sks's share the same fate?

When Garsnds were $150, SKS were $75. Now, 20 years later Garands are $1500 or more but you don't see $750 SKS.

While both rifles are common in Canada, the SKS are much more prolific. As supply dwindles, SKS aren't going to get any cheaper but it's going to be a long time before we see average SKS selling for $750. Just too many out there and when you get into that price range you will compete with a whole different level of brand new rifles.

One collector grade and 2 shooter grade examples of every year of Tula and Izhevsk production.
At least one collector grade of every other SKS variant out there.
Half a dozen milsurp chinese to bump fire and watch the barrel glow.

When the regular Chinese sks were $75 , the sks-d were at $100 , now they are at $700.

Supply is an important factor.

You see 700 sks. Yugos.

If you have picked nice ones, just wait till they hit $400. Then sell half of them and the ones you keep are free, if they make it to $400. Orr Trump includes sks in the next trade deal!!:)

One good SKS is enough. Mine prints 3 MOA groups with open sights and Soviet milsurp ammo all day. Bone stock 1954 Tula.

For SHTF, get something in 5.56 NATO and keep the SKS as the last resort.

Paid $169 from a site sponsor a few years ago for a Chinese military sks. See them on the EE fairly regular for $3-350.
I don't know if they sell for that but that's what I've seen.
I have one Russian and one Chinese

Ones enough for me. It has served me well and clocked many rounds through it. Doesn't do anything better than anything other semi auto I own though and it doesn't interest me from a collecting standpoint. Maybe if I start collecting ladas I will :p

Well, with that attitude, how will I ever get $400. For my sks's!! ;)

I have one and so does the wife. Hers is getting "sporterized" to lighten it up a bit for those long treks through the bush. Mine is staying all original. Might buy one more to put in a Monte Carlo stock, but I think I'll hold out until I find a beat up SVT-40 to butcher instead.

I usually keep a few for sale at gun shows. I don't sell them for much more than I pay, but it is fun to have them on the table and listen to all the "experts" tell their friends that SKS's are "no good", or "you can buy them cheaper at (fill in the blanks)".

I sold every Chinese commercial SKS as soon as they were put on the table. I sold an SKS-D at the Calgary show to a nice young fellow at at discount. Quite a few "experts" loudly proclaimed that it was a "ridiculous" price for an SKS. They didn't see that it was a D, nor would they have known the difference.

I would like to conjure up a straight pull bolt action from one, someday.

One for the wife, one for the daughter, and an 858 for me.

Add in a "few" crates of ammo, and the apocalypse is covered.
