For context: I a review saying they fired 2000 bullets using Ruger 10/22 and it's still good.

How many bullets can be fired on average before a gun needs major maintenance or a parts?

As in Post #3 - I recently read that world class shooters claim gilt edge accuracy can drop off after only 700 centre-fire rounds - many display "wear" at 1000 rounds - of centre-fire - those "worn out" target barrels would likely be way more accurate than anything store bought today, for a "hunting gun" - and it was mentioned that is also a function of the cleaning and maintenance regime that the shooter was using - can "wreck" a barrel with one ill considered cleaning attempt - especially at that level of competition - the average "deer hunter" likely never sees that effect even after 7000 or 10,000 rounds fired - the ones that grandson or great grandson will be firing. I have no clue how long a 10-22 barrel will last - I do notice mine will get cleaned of soot and carbon around the action - after about every outing. I am not a target shooter - I still think 5 shot groups at 100 yards into less than 1 inch are pretty good - I doubt I have ever even seen a 5 shot 100 yard 0.200" group - yet most bench rest competitions today are won with groups 1/2 or 1/4 that size.

In the on-line article about the Houston Warehouse Experiments (1990's ?) that Virgil guy was getting 0.025" groups at 100 yards - I doubt much of that was "store bought", or "mass produced".

OP - your thread title - "used" is not new from store, not pristine as it came from the factory - even handled once and cycled once since it was packaged at the factory can be considered "used" - does not even have to have been fired to be "used", instead of "new"; "abused" might be everything from dings on wood finish to scratches in the bore.

For your question in Post #1 - "how many rounds" - likely depends on the quality of the cleaning and if any maintenance or checks were done on it - is some WWI and older guns here that work apparently fine - I have no clue how many rounds they may have seen since they were made - 100 or 125 years ago or more. Likely not "high end" - more than likely slapped together as quickly as possible under war time conditions.

Exactly the same thing, completely depends on make and model. Turkish junk can fail within 100 rounds, your higher quality pumps (500’s,870) and o/u’s like B guns(bennelli, beretta, browning) can last tens of thousands of rounds, your grandkids will be shooting them
How about for a Mossberg Maverick 88? From what I know it is a decent shotgun, despite the affordable cost.

I got one brand new in box recently. I have fired 57 rounds since, 50 from two games of trap and 7 rounds showing my partner how to shoot. I am liking it so far, just wondering how long this would last me. I clean my gun after the range every time.

Maverick 88 is the budget line of Mossberg shotguns but even so, you're generally looking at thousands of shells before failure.

i have a Winchester model 1906 that is 118 years old. it was a shooting gallery gun at the PNE in vancouver before they switched to air rifles. it still shoots straight to this day. im sure that things been about as used and abused and a gun can be lol.
