When it comes to hunting with SKS...

Seems a lot people love their SKS. But when it comes to hunting with their SKS, less people are confident. Hey don't take me wrong, I'm not trying to talk you into grizz hunting with an SKS:eek: , that I wouldn't either. I do value my life. But why try you SKS with deer/black bear hunting? Oh I hear some mummbling "no scope". :D Range time!
 
when is someone going to show up with the cartoon of the dead horse being whipped? that usually makes an appearance whenever the sks is discussed for hunting.

the problem with the sks for hunting is that most people want more than a 100 yard deer gun.
 
WOW didn't we just go through this same topic on another thread a few days ago....I would suspect the people who are anti- SKS for hunting, are not hunters themselves. Anyone who has any experience as a hunter has enough knowledge to know not to be using a SKS in situations that is not going to effieciently kill an animal. I plan on using mine in the thick bush where 50yrd. shots and under is the norm, and I cannot see any problem using a SKS in that kind of situation. It is more than powerful and accurate enough at those distances to have a clean kill on a Whitetail, and just like using any other caliber of rifle, its all about PRACTICE...PRACTICE...PRACTICE.
 
native people of the Russian North have been using SKS for Polar Bear and Caribou Hunting for years....with no problems :) so, why we cannot do it???

I would hazard to guess that they know how to hunt, to shoot, and don't feel the need to own anything marked "Magnum". :D
 
If you like your SKS and you are confident and skilled with it and you keep to the limitations of the cartridge in regards to range etc, then go ahead and hunt with it. There's so much garbage floating around about the shortcomings of SKS rifles and 7.62x39 cartridge it's enough to make an inexperienced rifleman think you need a $2000.00 340 Weatherby to hunt with. Most of the derogatory things I hear about the SKS or the 7.62x39 cartridge are basically propaganda stuff (it's a commie gun etc) or from guys who never actually put efforts into trying to shoot the gun accurately. Take the shooters who use the crappiest ammo they can find and shoot off hand with open sights and then complain the gun or the round is inadequate. Then these same guys pull out their big magnums with 10x scopes and handloaded rounds and set up on the bench at the range and somehow use the performance of these guns to put down the SKS. Totally apples and oranges.
 
I think it comes down to snob value. Nothing more, nothing less.

It reminds me of a photo of my Grandpa, standing by his trophy buck and holding a Winchester rifle.
(The thing is that my Dad remembers him arriving home with a shotgun. When the camera came out, Grandpa ran into the house and exchanged shotgun for the rifle.)

Who wants to be remembered for a used $100. rifle?

They are rampaging through my yard most of the time. :D
I'm not sure if I will go for a Bear this year.

I really don't know enough about cleaning them, or what parts one can safely eat.
And I'm not sure if it would be with my SKS.
 
Hahaha! Well it's pretty much about the same as gutting a human:eek: ...ooops, no I meant that the bear looks pretty much like a human after being skinned. Actually same as cleaning a deer. This one I just got has premium meat, yum! The heart and part of the liver have already been in my stomach. :D The liver is tender too. So getting young ones gives you good eating. :rockOn: As a hunter, you've got to be a good cook too!

Not even a few years ROLLINGROCK has been known as an a--hole who kills animals with a cheap commie SKS:shotgun: . After ten years he'll be mentioned as the biggest a--hole on this board. After 50 years, if he still lives and this site still exists, ......who knows?:dancingbanana:
