When my PAL expires, what is involved in renewing?

DO I have to do the test again? or do I just call them up and pay a small fee or something.

It doesn't expire for another 3 years, but I just want to be prepared.

You fill out another application 6-8 months prior to the old one expiring and submit it with the current fee.

Only reason to take the test again is if you are upgrading to restricted.
 
No fee, no test. Send in the renewal paperwork well in advance and you're good to go. It's off the same paperwork as for your initial application.

Call the CFC and they'll send it out to you. I'd recommend having it to them at least 90 days before your old PAL expires.
 
Mine expires in june, I called beginning of march and asked to have the renewal form sent- received about a week after the call. I filled it out with a new pic from my digital camera and received my new license back today within 3 weeks- not bad for the CFC!!
I also sent in the form from cssa with regards to my information and disclosure of records to the CFC/RCMP, that too was sent--its about one and a half inches thick of firearms registered/transfers/STATT/LTATT -worth getting for your piece of mind I think.
