Summer is hear. Finally! This year am am planning to get into setting up stands in a big way. With the price of fuel I'm going to stick close to home and stands seem to be the way to go.

My question to all of you is.. When do you begin setting up ? Around here primitive weapon season begins in September and BP in October so should I be set up by mid August ? BTW I live in the forest fringe area of Saskatchewan.

Always looking for good advice.:)

No actual knowledge or advice but gonna need to keep an eye on this thread as I live 15-30 minutes from the forest edge by road and the area in between is rolling grass lands. I will say it would make sense to go out to where you'd like to hunt and scouting the area a few times early morning and in evening to see what area's the animals are in so you know the best field of fire you would want when it's time to cash in Bambi's chips.

That's SO dependant on the species and where you are.

Here in bc, many would answer you should have started already - looking for sheds, checking out wintering areas and figuring what went on, and of course there's always looking at new logging in the area, what roads may have been damaged or built since last year, etc. Out your way might well be different.

We don't use stands, but i've heard it said that it's wise to set 'em up early so the animals get used to them.

On my land the critters use the same trails year round, so you should know where to put the stands already. If there is no law specifying a time limit I'd be putting them up soon.
