When you want to buy a tikka but know savage shoots the same for less ! Lol

There is so much more to a gun than the size of the grouping.

If you don't get that, it's almost pointless to try to explain it.

If you'd feel the same driving down the road in a Ford Mustang compared to an Audi S5 because they're the same speed, then you wouldn't get it.

There is something to be said for build quality and pride of ownership.

I get that, but for a fun range gun/hunting rifle. I don't need a sports car, a nice pick up will do.
I have my sports cars, they have their place.

First, don't buy an Axis !

There is the T3 light model ( sporter barrel ) and the T3 Varmint ( heavy barrel ) not a T3 light varmint...

Accuracy results are about the same.

The Savage is a shooter.

The Tikka is a shooter too but its also a much more refined rifle !

I owned a couples of Savage and Tikka.
If I ever buy a Savage centerfire again, its gonna be a model 12 target action or nothing.

So if you just want something affordable that can shoot, the Savage is a good choice. If you want more, then buy the Tikka and don't look back.

Sorry but I'd have no pride in owning a $10,000 dollar rifle that could be out shot by one for $1500 or less.

In the "Precision forum" only accurate firearms are interesting.

Tikka ain't what it used to be.

I've looked over closely and handled a bunch of Tikka and Savage side by side. Most recently the T3 Tactical and the Savage 10TR (the ugly law enforcement over runs). No way i'd spend over 2x the price for the Tikka. Hell, after clean and lube, my Savage 10TR's bolt is smoother than the last 3 Tikka's i tried.

oh damn ! shots fired ! Id love a m12 bvss if I could find it... the tikka has everything I want, nice synth stock, bull barrel stainless and good rep... The asix has an all right stock, and bull barrel but is less then half the price and shoots the same. That is tough !

PLUS I can drop a boyds on there and boom, nice stock... Just missing the stainless bull barrel.

Hey now, I plan on dragging this thing around with me also. Any one up for the Remington 700 SPS Tactical with that nice 16.5 inch barrel would be awesome for 300 yard and under fun. Plus a good bush gun. pick up a nice boyds varmint hunter stock and whew.

But then again, savage 22" bull barrel for WAY less... SAVAGE AGAIN WITH THE STEAL

i had a low profile varminter in 223, with hand-loads it shot fleas. no factory load would shoot anywhere near what hand-loads would.

Now i own a t3 sporter in 6.5x55 and with Factory norma Gold match, at 200 5 rounds do under a quarter. i am more than happy with that. savages are good. and i still love their rifles. id buy more. but i splurged and got something that to me needs nothing. all i did to it was toss a brake on. can watch the trail of the bullet sail into the target.

Damn tempting..

The tikka is so damn fine though.

The tikka's definitely shoot better than that.
The varmints are in the .4 to .5 range, and the tacticals are in the .3 to .4 range.
Savage does alright mostly due to the bolt head design, but if you look in their barrels with a borescope, it's quite a horror show in comparison to most other manufacturers. The actions are good to make a low cost semi custom off of, again due to the bolt head design, but unless you plan on changing barrels at some point the tikka is a better performing option.

care to back your words up with some targets?
I've shot the occasional 0.3" group with my 223 savages but can't do it consistently.
what you see is consistent under 1MOA

Went thru the same turmoil last year.

Wanted a .223 field gun as it's just a tool not safe queen.

Short listed the T3, 700, Mossberg Patrol, and Savage.

T3 was at the top, the 700's recent QC issues took it out, the Mossbergs bolt slop also took it out.

Then down to the T3 and Savage Hog Hunter in .223. The T3 was really nice in every way, but then I tried the Savage Accu Trigger, metal back up irons, looked at it's heavier threaded barrel, and at 469.00 CDN, it was a no brainer!

Absolutely no regrets with my Savage, I did spray in expanding foam into the stock and epoxy metal rails in the front part of the stock, add a cheek riser, and bipod and muzzle brake.

The gun out shoots me, kids love shooting it, and is just a tank! Yes it's ugly but I didn't want a pretty gun just something that works.

Not scientific just out shooting the 1st time with mixed ammo I had kicking around, and no I did not shoot this group my Army buddy did.

Ive allways had killer savages. Guess its a mute point now though... Went and held some heavy barreled savages, my god I didn't want to drag em into the bush...

Ended up just grabbing a Savage Axis 2 in 223 with the weaver optic for 500 bones (minus 50 for mail in rebate). You just cant beat that deal. Frankly when I get some hand loads worked up Savage or tikka will shoot the same.

Maybe in a year or two when I refine my yote killing skills ill pick up a tikka. As for now this savage was too good to pass up.

ive never had a good savage. ive had OK savages but never as good as my Tikkas - and im a whore to performance rather than brand. If you show me a savage that can do better ( in all aspects - not just accuracy ) i'll be all over it.

I can show you two, but you can't have em!
