Where are the Chaparral 1897's made?

Can-Down;
I have been to Chaparral's facility, I saw them being made.... What mroe can I say....

Oh yes, the also make them for some of the "brand names" in the USA.

John

Too many Americans like to badmouth anything not made in the U.S. look out for all the BS on those sites, then again look out for all the BS on any site lol. The internet is a beautiful thing :p

Well here's the latest post over at THR......

Those are Chinese guns. Here is the reply I received from the owner of EMF, Boyd Davis, who spoke directly with the owner of Chapparal, Angelo Buffoli:

"Howdy - He claims to have opened a small office in China. The 1897's are Chinese. He claims that they are better because he will inspect them."

There was more to the conversation, but this is what pertained to the Model 97's.

The owner of MarStar just may have misunderstood where the guns were actually made.

Hope this helps.

Fred

RE THE 1897 SHOTGUN;
Lets make it very clear....
LONE WOLF; "So John took the wrong flight and thought China was Italy?"
Thats why the flight was so long ! ANd the taxi driver could not find the Vatican ??

Seriously folks, Chaparral makes the guns in Italy, Boyd Davis did speak with the owner of Chaparral, and yes they discussed both Chinese AND Italian made guns.

Angelo Buffoli is an employee of Chaparral in Italy.
There is only ONE OWNER of Chap[arral Arms, that would be Nicola Nauti. And he sure does not look Chinese....

Hope this clears it up
John

Thanks John,

So there is no chinese parts on the guns made in Italy that Marstar sells as Chaparral... but does Chapparal also imports chinese guns into the US market?

I was Leary of Chaparral firearms after reading all the negative stuff about them on the U.S. Cowboy Action sites however, I bought a Chaparral '66 in .38/.357 mag from Marstar and have fired over 200 rounds and it works just great. My Marlin 94 CB and Rossi '92 are now my backup guns. The fit and finish is excellent and accurate as all get out. The action was a little stiff at first however, after 50 rounds it's now slicker than bull snot on a doorknob Would I buy another Chaparral? Darn tootin. Contemplating on a Chaparral '73 for my birthday this coming fall.

Thanks for relating your good experience with Chaparral Cowboy, it would be nice to hear from someone who's bought one of the 1897's.... they must be out there but I've yet to read a posted review here on CGN.

well, here I am!!! I love my 1897 trench gun shotgun that I got from Marstar. John is awesome. I got it specifically for SASS Wildbunch. I was really impressed how it looked right out of the box. It functions really well. I will be buying another very soon for my Dad for Wildbunch too, I am just waiting for my Para Wildbunch 1911 first. Go ahead and get one, you won't be disappointed. Just make sure John has one for me for my Pa. :)

I'm just going to throw this out there and say that a lot of Americans couldn't tell you very much about Canada let alone what is made in China or Italy, look for a better source of info than American forums...

America doesn't have a monopoly on ignorance, and there are some great members on the high road who have a lot to share..

In this case I don't think the fellow on THR is ignorant ,just possibly misinformed or perhaps they are getting different guns down there, through a different supply chain...?

I've read some posts about the Norinco trench guns but haven't seen anything posted about the slightly more expensive Chaparral 1897.
