I have a 1919 M96 I literally picked up Friday. Impulse buy, very cheap because someone had sanded the stock and taken a wire brush to the metal parts
Box of ammo was $41, and $43 for an RCBS set of dies, and $33 for projectiles.
The winchester brass is absolutely crap. 4 will not fit in 3 different shell holders, and the neck on another is already split. I'll be looking for only PPU ammo/brass from now on.
the gun shoots like a champ. Must be sighted in for 200 yards as I had to aim a bit low at 100 yards but otherwise what a sweet shooter. Almost no recoil, or at least similar to .223 which is incredible. I absolutely LOVE this gun.
Spent all day trying to refinish the stock and the metal parts, while retaining all of the "history" that is still there. Basically just re-blued and/or polished the metal parts, and did the stock over in various layered stains until I got it back to what I would consider an "antiqued" look, and then hit it with tru oil and knocked it all down with 00 steel wool. I have no idea why anyone sands an old stock, but hey, it made for a good buy.
