I cannot believe nobody talks about the Sweeds. What is going on ?

Would like to share my knowledge, as limited as it can be, about the best

rifle ever made....!

Wake up M96 owners and shooters...!

I have a 1903 dated m96 and love it,just wish factory ammo for it was cheaper so I could shoot it more,,hahaha.

So far I have 5 boxes of once fired brass and I might get someone to reload for me.

6.5x55mm factory hunting ammo is pretty much the same price as any other regular hunting ammo, about $25 a box -

Or about $23 a box for FMJ ammo -

What you say is true.I should have been more clear and said cheap surplus ammo like 7.62 x 39 or 7.62 x 54r or even the GP 11 7.5 x 55 swiss.

btw...I've shot Winchester,Remington,Federal Fusion,Sellior & Bellot and PPU ammo.

For the tightest groups Winchester wins hands down....In my m96 anyway.

One of my old hunting partners had a 6.5 Ackley Improved that he liked for Prairie whitetails and antelope. Standard everything, including barrel. Just a new stock and scoped.

I have a 1919 M96 I literally picked up Friday. Impulse buy, very cheap because someone had sanded the stock and taken a wire brush to the metal parts :(

Box of ammo was $41, and $43 for an RCBS set of dies, and $33 for projectiles.

The winchester brass is absolutely crap. 4 will not fit in 3 different shell holders, and the neck on another is already split. I'll be looking for only PPU ammo/brass from now on.

the gun shoots like a champ. Must be sighted in for 200 yards as I had to aim a bit low at 100 yards but otherwise what a sweet shooter. Almost no recoil, or at least similar to .223 which is incredible. I absolutely LOVE this gun.

Spent all day trying to refinish the stock and the metal parts, while retaining all of the "history" that is still there. Basically just re-blued and/or polished the metal parts, and did the stock over in various layered stains until I got it back to what I would consider an "antiqued" look, and then hit it with tru oil and knocked it all down with 00 steel wool. I have no idea why anyone sands an old stock, but hey, it made for a good buy.

Is it your first Mauser Som Bar?
I have no problems with the Win brass using Lee num 3 shell holder.
ppu is very good.
Be careful, shooting a 96 swed is a sting. you start with one and you eng up with a lot...
How is the powder supply in your area ?
