Where are the Ruger 77/22 stories?

I have two of them. One stainless one blue, both awesome!! Deadly accurate, thousands of rounds through them. No problem at all. Load, shoot, hit where you aim.
 
I own a 77/17 and a 77/22Hornet. Aside from terrible triggers I have been pretty impressed with them as a whole. The 77/17 is the laminate stock heavy barrel and it is quite a shooter, the 77/22 Hornet is also the heavy barrel version but has been much more finicky in getting good accuracy from.
As much as I like them I feel they are overpriced and that money would be better spent on a CZ. Savage not so much, while they may be good shooters, they are cheaply made guns that evoke little pride in ownership.

I've got 3 77's, one in 22lr, one in hmr and one in hm2. They are all great guns, accuracy very good. My 22 gets the nod most often on gopher hunts, as I love the 3 position safety, and I can use the 25 rounders that I have for my 10/22's. I own CZ's, but I don't like using them for hunting as much, as I hate loading 5 round mags. I have owned 3 CZ's now, with all of them needing some sort of trigger work, and all of them needing to be bedded for consistancy. I have 4 or 5 different barrels for my 77, with all of them showing preference for different ammos. I will admit that the Ruger is more money, but there are some aftermarket parts for them if you want to personalize them. I agree that there isn't much info on them here. It was one of the rifles I was looking at for my first purchase but with lack of any knowledge of them and not being able to see one in person I got a savage mark II Mako(essentially a BV in a fancy thumbhole stock). At some point I will get one as the above poster mentioned there is a fair amount of aftermarket parts to customize them unlike for savages or CZ's. Plus be able to use the 25 rounders is a plus if your just plinking as well. Im a sucker for ###y bolt guns.
 
Ive had a 77/22 for a number of years,and while its a well made and attractive rifle,Ive never found it to be more than just OK in the accuracy department.My BRNO model 5 will easily outshoot it.Still its fine for gophers and I like the fact that feels and looks like a scaled down centrefire rifle and doesnt resemble a "toy" that some other 22's do.
 
I have a 77/17 in walnut and blue. It is awesome. Kicks butt at the range and is so much fun to shoot you almost forget the cost of ammunition. Now If I could only import some gophers to the west coast.
 
I have had a Ruger 77/22 Hornet and still have a 77/17. The 17 HMR is very accurate and besides a heavy trigger is really enjoyable to shoot. I just picked up a timney sear/spring combo and will install it when I get back to the Hat so I am sure it will get even better. The hornet was pretty brutal - it was not very accurate and was not a pleasure to own at all. I was turned off of Rugers for a long time because of that particular rifle. That rifle as an 80's produced beast and is probably in a dump somewhere or hopefully re-barrelled. I would probably buy another 77 only if it was a new production rifle.
 
I went on a search for an accurate 22WMR some 3-4 years ago. Went though 2 Marlins, both fairly accurate, but had other issues IMO. Then bought a Savage, that unit shot quite poorly, and went away quickly. A CZ 452 American followed, and while it shot spectacularly with one type of ammo, it showed a fussiness that I decided was not for me. Finally picked up a stainless laminated 77/22WMR, and it has been a real revelation. It shoots all WMR ammo I have tried in it well, with one exception, and that is Winchester Dynapoint. All I did was lighten the trigger pull and free float it. I am well aware of how hard it is to find accurate WMR's, so will hang onto this one. Regards, Eagleye.
 
77/17

I own a stainless, grey laminate Ruger 77 in 17HMR and really like the big rifle feel to it, but it is not accurate as a CZ 17 HMR I owned. The CZ could put 3 into a 1/2 inch at 100 yards on it's best days and the Ruger's best is around the .7 mark - not enough to miss many gophers in the field and the rotary clip is excellent.
I went from a 3-9X scope to putting a 4.5-14X on the CZ and had to get higher rings, which threw the balance of the smaller rifle way off. That's the only reason the CZ was sold.
Quite happy with the Ruger's quality, fit and finish and it holds a bigger scope better than the CZ.
 
I bought my first 77/22 over 20 years ago. Glass bedded the action and free floated the barrel. I used brass turnings in the Acraglass so it was rather distinctive looking something like flakes of gold. Traded it sometime later to finance a Remington 541. Saw it later in another gun store, and bought it back. For a plinker at 50 yards it was probably acceptable but I suppose I expected more from it. It would not do better that my 541 no matter what I tried, and eventually unloaded it again. Now I wish I had tried more ammo, judging by be current collection. It is probably still local.

And yet I have the same .22Mag SS-lam version and mine is the most accurate .22Mag I've ever owned, easily beating out a CZ bolt, a Marlin bolt, a Winchester 9422Mag, and even an HK300 semiauto (and probably one or two others I may have forgotten).

My buddy says its just luck of the draw. I say that if I was that d**n lucky I wouldn't have had to go through so many .22Mags to finally find an accurate one!
 
I too bought my first 77/22 nearly 20 years ago, its still in the safe and I love it. I also have a 77/22 in .22wmr which I really like and I purchased a 77/22 in .22 hornet earlier this year but unfortunately have not had a chance to shoot it yet.

I'm addicted to rimfires, with about 15 of them and I feel that the Rugers are some of the best that I own and some of the best available for sale.
 
Ruger 77/22

I have a 77/22RS (with sights) that was bought new in '84. My dad bought it after Bob Milek's article in Guns and Ammo magazine that year. Shoots very well, very accurate, just now noticed that the trigger is a little tougher than I remembered. It's a blued bolt version and the machining on it looks a little better than the current ones I've seen. It's been carried many a mile and will never be sold. If anyone has a blued bolt version with sights for sale I'd love to buy another for my kids. I've only got the one to hand down and would love another to keep the kids happy. I like the CZ and the Anschutz for the fit and finish but the Ruger has too many stories to go with it. Mine has a 2-7X Leupold VX2 on it and it's a great handling combination.
