Sorry if I missed this anywhere else, just wanted to ask where the recent surplus Chinese SKS rifles are coming from? Not the unissued military models, but the ones in used/surplus condition right now. Were they in PLA/Chinese stockpiles or coming from other countries/conflicts? Interesting to know the history, since they did see use.

I'm not sure which arsenals or companies are doing it, but they are mostly refurbed, pieced together and exported directly from China.

I was wondering the same thing. International in Surrey BC had a stack of them on sale for $190 recently. The clerk said they were not matching and didn't know where they came from. I looked over a few shoulders at them and didn't examine them myself but they seemed a little beat up.

Thanks for the answers guys!

The descriptions from stores seem pretty rough, like you fellas say...but in a $190 beater SKS, that sounds ok! I was really wondering where the heck they came from though.

Imported by North Sylva. They're all refurbished from what I've seen and rather poorly. Magazines weren't matched during pinning so they are basically all mismatched.

I looked at 20 and I would say there were ~5 good shooters and ~15 wall hangers.

Ouch, that ain't a good ratio. Okay, for a couple bucks more a Russian sounds lots better.

Oh, they had some of the Chinese ones too?

My local CT had Russians but they looked like dog poop. Paint and ratty stocks. betting the insides were cute.

But all sent back now under the directive, no doubt.

Not to derail this thread, but I went in looking to buy one or two Russians from a dealer here in the GTA and I couldn't pull the trigger on the sale. They were terrible. So, I don't think it's just a Chinese SKS issue... I think we're finally hitting the bottom of the barrel.

I bought one of the recent Chinese ones, its pretty ugly, some pitting under the stock line over all rough condition. a grade below the BBQ referbs that have been available

I had heard they came from Albania, but who really knows.

"Trench art" on the recent Albanian-haul made it easy to narrow down the point of origin for the Chinese guns that came into the US starting in 2012.

China supplied the Albanians with aid starting in the early 1960's, but the USSR supplied the rest of the eastern bloc countries throughout the cold war. China also supplied significant aid to the middle east, Africa, and south Asia.

Claven and Boris,

Was wondering about Albania on account of those beat up M44 carbines that Collector Source brought in a few years back that all had Chinese bolts...
