Can someone tell me where I can purchase a new barrel for my cz858? The barrel on mine has some pitting after shooting corrosive ammo. Is it worth it to upgrade to a stainless barrel if shooting corrosive ammo?

Thanks!

I'd say just buy a Vz next time around if your barrel is getting pitting because it's chrome lined. Or just clean your Cz more rigorously.

I'm not aware of any stainless barrels for a Cz. I think when I asked my gun store about changing a barrel they said it would cost like 60% of a new gun, and that's for Vz pricing. Probably 80% of a Cz.

Maybe just buy a new one and take better care of it.

Honestly.. pitting shouldn't be a problem... have owned mosins that were badly pitted and they shot fantastic.

That being said.. I haven't heard of replacing a vz58 barrel.. however maybe contact North Sylva or Wolverine Supplies.

North Sylva does warranty work for CSA, which used chrome lined barrels.. Wolverine does the CZ858 work I believe.

I cleaned it what I thought was really well with hoppe's # 9 and thought all was good and put it away. A year and a half later I'm looking at it closely and notice rust down the pipe!

What midnightpossum is a very valid point though, I should see how it shoots before I go spending lots of money. My 858 is the all black one, I believe it is a new manufacture and not a military referb. Would this one have a chrome lined barrel do you know?

Use hot water to clean after corrosive ammo. You may want to check the piston head too.

Also, does yours say CSA Vz-58 on the side or CZ 858?

I think it should be. Does it say CSA anywhere? That's the big ticket to finding out. If you do have a chrome lined barrel and you managed to pit it, you accomplished something truly spectacular sir.

Either way, when you shoot corrosive, wash it off with hot water. The goal isn't so much to clean like after regular ammo as to wash off the residue. Washing it off means all the particulates are off the metal and in the water. So wash the barrel and piston with hot water, or if you're like some people I know, just shoot the gun till it's really hot then pour water down the barrel. You don't need windex or anything.

Clean it.. shoot it.. clean it...most likely look like new again.

Seriously .. not kidding.

Military type firearms that are sold to the public.. have seen far worst days/weeks/months/years then yours.

I guarantee that your barrel is fine... unless the lands rusted away. :) .. we already know that didn't happen.

I'm not so sure its pitting in all honesty. If I look very closely at the muzzle it does look like some very minor pitting. but when I shine a flashlight and look down the bore I can't get it to come clean and shine. So I assumed it was probably pitting from the corrosive ammo.

Any suggestions on methods to really clean the inside of the bore? I was thinking of maybe putting a bronze brush on an electric drill.

When you shoot a round of ammunition you're making something move at some 2300 fps in the barrel. That's a lot more force than most brushes or drills. Shoot the gun, then pour hot water down the barrel and on the piston, then clean the gun like normal.

If what you suspect is pitting is smaller after the whole ordeal, then it is not pitting and is some sort of buildup, and you need to repeat the process of cleaning and shooting again. It will progressively get better and you will shoot more. These are good things, cz858lover, these are good things.

You may want to look into the sponsor Canada Ammo, they are getting a new shipment of 7.62x39 that's non-corrosive in soon. A worthy investment, perhaps.
