I would like to get one of those for my 1911, does anyone in Canada sell them?

Can't you order them direct from Pierce Grip? The last I knew they still had some Farrar 1911 grips and they are dandies. If you have a problem, PM me and I will order for you. Regards, Richard:)

Richard,

I hadn't heard of "Farrar" grips and I don't see them on Pearce's website.

Obviously you like Pearce grips. I was a bit unsure due to their relatively low cost. I just got a used Springfield 1911A1 which has Pachmayr (?) wrap-around grips on it. Lots of gripping surface - perhaps a bit sharp - but it feels too big for my medium-sised hands. I was thinking of replacing them with a thinner grip like the Pearce 1911-2, as well as replacing the Wilson trigger with a slightly shorter one. (The Wilson is 2 3/8" I think, but the Greider "Long" trigger is 1/8" less according to the Brownell's catalogue.)

I'm looking for the finger grouve inserts that go under the 'regular' pannel grips...I'll try to contact they and see if them ship to Canada. But I was hoping someone in Canada sells them.

IM_Lugger, first things first, Pierce makes and sells inserts (they sell for $11.00 (US)). Next, Pierce bought the old Farrar Grip company and their inventory with the intent of making these excellent grips but production did not fly. I called Pierce and I was informed that they no longer ship to Canada due to Canada Post problems. I probably have asked but where in Ontario do you live? If I get the grips and inserts can we meet for a transfer? I live in the States but close to Windsor, Ontario. Regards, Richard:)

Odd. Usually it's State Dept. or ATF regulations that scupper sending to Canada. Fortunately I also have a US address in Bellingham WA and have stuff sent there and clear it through Canada Customs myself. No problems as long as it is exportable w/o the vendor needing an export permit.

Thanks for the offer :) but I live a few hours drive away from Windsor so that would not be possible.

The mystery thickens...

I just ordered a set of Pearce grips for my 1911 from Brownell's and sure enough they were deleted from my order (as was the Greider trigger) since "the mfr. is not registered with the State Dept." I called Pearce and spoke to Layne, who said, "We've been registered with the State Dept. since we began in 1994!" So I called the long-suffering Sandy Moranville at Brownell's who brought up my order and managed to get the grips added... but not the trigger.

I also spoke with Bill Greider at Greider Precision and he tried to explain the intricacies of the American-Canadian trade details that supposedly cover such things. He lost me after the second sentence but he was just as indignant as everyone else about the bureaucratic hoopla that the State Dept. has created around the whole issue. He's going to look into it and talk to me tomorrow. There may be another supplier I can get the item from. (How confusing is that?!)

Anyway, Sandy Moranville ought to be on the short list for sainthood as she never seems to get flustered.

ps- Pearce do have some Farrar grips in stock but as Richard said, they don't advertise it because they couldn't get the production going properly. Sounds like they're just selling off what they have.

josquin, if you want to know just how screwed up the US BATF is consider this, a Norinco 1911A21 can no longer be imported because Norinco makes a semiautomatic AK47. Therefore, the Norinco 1911A1 is deemed to be an assault weapon. Go figure! Regards, Richard:)

Sigh... somehow I'm not surprised. Aside from Canada importing Norinco sporting arms, we can buy genuine Cuban cigars up here, so we're REALLY suspect. (Alas, the closest I'll ever get to affording to smoke Cuban cigars is to collect the butts and mix a bit in my .45ACP reloads.)

I live in gun-restricted Canada, I can legally own an American-made 1911A1, but can't get American-made grips or a trigger for it from an American retailer. "Go figure" indeed.

I'm sure that if Dante were alive today, he'd have made a special place in hell for bureaucrats. And both our countries would be contributing souls to it- preferably before they die.
