Where can I find 6X47 Swiss Match Brass?

With the exception of the SM brass using large rifle primers, I believe that running 6.5x47Laupua brass through the size die should solve your problem.

I guess I shoud have been more specific... I'm actually interested in the RWS or Ruag brass. I know it is possible to frankenstein existing brass, but the RWS stuff is superlative... that's what I want because I want to use it to make 6X47 lapua cases.

That is going to be a tough find. Except for the specialty reloading companies in the US, I doubt there is any source in Canada. I really don't know how much is used in Europe either.

Silly question but got to ask, what's wrong with the Lapua 6.5 brass?

I am sure you looked to see that the Swiss shoulder is shorter then the Lapua so you will need to do a bunch of fireforming.

There is a great side by side pic of these cases on the 6mmbr blog right now.

Neck wall uniformity on the 6.5 lap brass has been so bad in the batches I've had, that I've had to do some pretty aggressive turning for use with my "no turn" chamber. I can drop a bullet down a fired case and not have it touch the side of the neck. That means lots of re-sizing and the need for annealing sooner.

I know it would take some work, but I will have a "fire-forming" barrel if I can get some of the brass.

That's really too bad given the price you pay for Lapua.

Big reason I set things up to do a light neck turning. No turn doesn't always pan out.

As long as the neck isn't under 12thou thick, it should last just fine. The Lapua alloy is quite resiliant.

Nowadays, LR shooters are annealing at 3 to 5 firings anyways no matter the brass. Seems to help with consistency and stringing. Still not sure if that is worth the extra work.

Good luck with your search. 6XC new lots are supposed to be quite consistent but they will not take the beating Lapua or Win can give you so that is another negative. Not that cheap either.

RWS is supposed to be quite durable too but have not used any.

If you are willing to wildcat, you can size down 243 and trim to length. Then you can neck turn and have a consistent 15 to 16 thou neck. Anneal and you are good to go.

Not anymore work then what you would have with the Swiss and you can get that done without huge costs or headache trying to find brass.

Start with a 7BR FL sizer with no decap rod. Push the shoulder back to the correct headspace. Trim. Then run through 6.5 die, neck turn then 6mm. Fireform and you are done.

Ian, contact Steve at Sinclair int. I believe he has access to what you want.

Thanks Mike!!

Sinclair needs a permit to export Brass and they charge $70 per order for doing so. I definitely appreciate the tip, but Sinclair isn't an economical option unfortunately.

Everybody doing 6X47 use Lapua brass and we have not had any complaints about concentricity. Where did you get the brass? If poor spec, return it!

Hi Peter, I got mine through Paul Reibin and all three of my first boxes were really crappy. I grabbed some recently and the difference was night and day. SInce posting this, I had heard and read a number of complaints regarding early 6.5X47 brass quality and conversely have heard many different anecdotes about the improvement in quality... a non-issue now apparently. I am a total Lapua fan; this was quite out of character.

Ian, from now on please contact us directly if having any problems with Lapua product. Being business geniuses, we know that customer satisfaction is what it's all about.

Regards,

Peter
