Does anyone know where I can find some airtight(i.e. with rubber gaskets) ammo cans in the Montreal area?

If you 're near a Princess Auto in Montreal you could try them . The local one here ( NL. ) stocks them for seven bucks & change .

Thanks Thunderflash, I'll check, but I don't even know if there is a "princess auto", at least I've never heard of it.

I live in Sherbrooke and there are 2 army surpluses here and both stock them. various sizes. around 20$ each for the .50cal size, and usually in pretty good condition.

did you check your army surplus stores? They usually have many of them.

Princess Auto

Princess Auto has the smaller size for 7-8 bucks and the large ones for like 15-20.

good deal and they are in good shape. I bet they are from the Middle East somewhere.

Will do, I'll let you know what they have and how much($)...

...oh and to each their own but my suggestion would be that whatever you do(unless you only need 1 or 2 cans), do NOT buy the 7.62 NATO cans from the small surplus stores, they are trying to charge $15+ for the 200 rounders.

Pretty steep when they are probably getting them for 6 bucks or less.

I wouldn't spend more than 9 or 10 for those, if worse comes to worst, I'll take a ride to Princess Auto in Ottawa and pick up a bunch of cans there.

Oh yeah, "Proutfoo", in another "Ammo can" thread you said you toss in a few dessicant packs for moisture, do you know a good local place to buy small dessicant packs in bulk?

alas no....I get mine at work, I work in IT and stuff we buy is littered with those :) sorry

Well the silica gel kitty litter is really quite the same anyway....

Don't think I'd drive from Montreal to Ottawa. However, it's not a place you can just pop in and out of. They supply farms and other places that use/need tools etc. Make sure you have some time. At least an hour.
It's a great place to buy inexpensive 'bits/tools'(cut off wheels, stones, etc) for rotary tools(Dremel). No name tools that don't cost what 'Dremel' brand tools cost in Home Depot. PA will send you a free catalogue and they do mail order. Plus a 100% guarantee. If you're not happy with whatever you buy from them, they'll fix it.
.50 cal ammo cans are extremely handy. The PA in London had a vast selection, in assorted condition(mostly surface rust), a few months back. About $10. Marked with assorted original loads too. .50 cal trace, ball, etc.
