Where can I find Wartak SKAR SD-R Rail replacement pins?

Hey guys,

Before I start, let me say that I have NOT stripped the threads out of the rear retaining pin...yet. I took apart my SKS after a day of shooting, and when reassembling the gun I tightened the screws into the rear retaining pin on my Wartak SD rail. Then I felt my allen wrench go 1/4 turn too far...and my heart stopped for a second. I unscrewed it and put it back in and it fit well. That got me thinking, if I keep taking it out every time when I clean my SKS, I might strip the threads out of the pin. The threads appear to be 1/4"-28 UNF, but I don't have the proper tools to accurately measure the screws.

Where would I be able to buy/order replacement pins? I feel that if the pin was made out of steel, rather than aluminum, the risk of stripping the threads would be less. I try going to Wartak's website but I can't find any information about replacement parts.

Anyone know where I can find information? Thanks guys!

Same problem I had with the Kwik Rail. I made my own out of a spring pin. Not pretty but I use mine hunting and I want to be able to remove it in the field if I have to without tools. Easy and quick when cleaning gun...

Neat! How well does your scope hold zero when using a spring pin? What do you have there wrapped around the rear side of the dust cover? I also like the handguard you have on the gas tube. :)

It works perfectly. I took it to the range sighted it in, was getting about 2" groups at 100 and was consistently hitting the 300yd gong. Pulled the pin, flipped the rail up and down a few times, stuck pin back in. Took a bead on a previous bullet hole at 100yds and put the first shot 1/2" away from it. next shots went to hitting the 300yd gong shot after shot... Are you referring to the spring going around back?...that is the Spring of the spring pin. It is what holds the pin from coming out. It doesn't interfere at all with the function of the weapon, but it is great for using to remove pin with gloved hands in the dead of winter. The hand guard I got here:http://www.hical.ca/apps/webstore/products/show/1736021

Could always bolt it if you have to. Magwedge and wartek both have this downside I see.

Not sure what other options would work. You dont want something weak otherwise you will end up with a reciever in the face! I took the stock latch pin to my local industrial bolt suppliers and matched it up with a grade 8 bolt and locknut. Ljones method is a great option that is tooless. He had to mill the pin to the correct diameter tho so hunting down the correct size or making one fit is crucial. You dont want any slop at all. Might be able to make a roll pin work but then you have to drive it out with a punch and that is not ideal at all

How does it look with a lock nut and bolt? Do you have a picture? I was wondering also how slop, if any, you have with the bolt method. Thanks.

I just keep 2 10mm wrenches in my kit in case i need to feild strip. Not a big deal to me at all i always have tools in my truck or really wherever i am

for the life of me I cant remember. it was metric and grade 8. like I said I took the stock latch pin in and matched it up.

Just installed my wartak rail. Placed a vortex 3-9x40 on it and sighted in at the range today. Rail is great got the rifle sighted in an shooting great groups at 100yds. Just finished my cleaning. I see what ya mean about the pin not holding up for long. I almost wanna take it out again just to confirm for myself that it holds zero.

on that note wholesale sports is selling the wartak rail for $99 bux regular price. man did I get ripped paying 130 for my magwedge!!!!!

Haha ya I ordered the wartak when it was still the same price an the magwedge. How r your guys rails holding up. I read your posts and both say they hold zero after cleaning. I'm so pumped to take mine out and see for myself. If true the sks just got a whole lot better. Never thought I could get an sks to do what I did today at 100yrds.
