I want to cut my reloading costs, so I was wondering if there are any cheaper bullets. If so, then where can I get them.

You could pull the bullets from a crate of 7.62x39 surplus. They only cost $.17 / shot!

Then you could tell your friends you have .303 armour piercing ammunition

It's like pulling teeth, sometimes, innit?

Caliber? Type of shooting you want to do (plinking, targets, hunting?)

Casting may be an option (you can set yourself up to make bullets for about the price of a couple boxes of premium hunting ammo), bulk buying FMJ slugs may be an option, as could "pulls", bullets removed from surplus ammo.

Shooting plain old bulk-bag bullets instead of boxed up premium stuff might be "it".

Or you could look at swaging your own.

Information. Required, to get good answers!

cheap bullets

I was tired of being ripped off for plain lead bullets , so I decided to invest in a Lee melting pot and a 6 bullet mold.

After a short learning cycle, I am absolutely sold on casting. I got some wheel weights for free and was able to melt everything down within 20-30 minutes. I have learned to use the Lee melter only for pouring the refined lead into the bullet mold. You should use an old large pot to melt the weights. You will welcome the larger surface of a large pot when skimming the crap off the top of the lead. Flux, then skim some more until you get a nice silver color with no crud. Pour into ingot molds for later use with the Lee melter.

Once you get the hang of pouring the lead into a 6 cavity mold, you are good for 18 bullets a minute, or close to 1000 per hour.

The Lee sizer works like a charm, and lubing with Lee alox is a breeze. My bullets are virtually perfect, and are as good if not better than store bought lead bullets. Your biggest investment is your time, but there is no price for the pride in creating your own for next to nothing

Very basically, you pay for cheap, thats what you get. From time to time, you may run across the odd bargain but for the most part, as with any other commodity in life, you get what you pay for. There's cheap, run of the mill and top end. Now you decide.
