Where could I find a Model 610???

Hey guys,

I'm in Picton, ON and gun dealers are limited in my area. I currently have a 40 S&W auto and would love a revolver that can take the same ammo. I know that the S&W Model 610 takes 10mm and 40. Problem is that they stopped making them in 2012. I cannot find one. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Shaner

Maybe a "WTB" ad on the EE? Other than that just keep checking used inventory at the various online dealers.

If you really want one badly enough buy it in the US and pay the $$ to have Irunguns or Prophet River import it for you.

Thanks sailor. I'm waiting to get my EE approval. Do you have any reliable online dealers that I could watch?

Thanks

Unfortunately, dealers with a large selection of used handguns seem almost non-existent in Canada. Ellwood Epps seems to have the largest handgun inventory and it seems to turn over quite quickly. Maybe others can chime in with some other suggestions.

I really think a "WTB" ad on the EE may be your best bet. Another, often overlooked, strategy is to simply put the word out at your club or range. You may luck out and find something locally.

I saw one in the EE last month, but hadn't logged in for a few days and it was gone. Really nice looking gun. I had a 6.5" that I sold a few years back, but what I'd really like is a 5" "no dash" version from the early 90s. If one comes up, I'd like to make it my 40th birthday gun, but it will probably cost me my left nut.

'unobtainium'.

NAA.

Dexter, have you ever tried one. They have really mixed online reviews. Does anyone have any first hand experience with the Chiappa Rhino???

Thanks

My 6.5 610 is the most accurate revolver I've ever owned.

My 5" 610 no dash is a close second.

You guys are making me regret selling my 5" no dash 610! I knew they were rare but .....€#%£!!
JohnnyMac, what distance was the target you shot the 5" at? I could group mine at 10yds within an inch with .40 ammo.
As for the question on balance, the gun is bulky and front heavy, even the 5" was that way. My old 586 6" balanced better for me.
I sold it since factory 10mm is hard to find, expensive and loaded down. With the few 10mms I put thru, I really couldn't tell much difference compared to the .40. The N frame really tames the recoil. Loaded with proper handloads, it would have been an excellent woods, handgun hunting or silhouette gun...sigh!

How do you like the balance on the two? I'm guessing (based on my experience with the 6.5") that the 5" would balance better.

I haven't shot these a whole lot and what I have done with the 2 is all target shooting at 25yards. As for balance as a target gun they're both great. The main differences between the two are that the action on the 5" although factory is way better than the 6.5" in double and single action, however even though the trigger is a little heavier on the 6.5" it's still easier to shoot and more consistently accurate because of the longer sight radius and the recoil isn't quite as snappy. I actually use my 6.5" as a base gun when I'm shooting groups with other guns. If I'm not getting great accuracy out of another load for any given gun I will shoot a group with the 610 to see how it groups and make sure that it's the gun and not just me being off that day. What I typically find is a great group that is tighter than what I've been shooting with whatever other gun I happen to have that day. I also love that the 10mm is so versatile. You can load up or down depending on your preference or application and as these 610's have shown they are also very accurate.

Both these groups were shot at 25yards offhand. I can guarantee that in better hands both guns will do better than what I can do. With the 5" I have actually only fired 4 groups and this was the best one but I'm positive if I put a bit more time in on that one it would do better. As for balance the N frames are a little heavier but I find that I can hold my front sight very steadily on target. As for action shooting I used to use a 625 with 5" barrel in idpa and found it to be very capable and have no reason to think either of these would be any less efficient.

That's pretty good for 25yds. esp. since you only fired 4 groups.
Looking at your pic again, I think my problem was I had the finger grooved round butt wooden grip installed on mine instead of the Hogues. They were pretty but did not balance well due to being short. Maybe that's why I felt the gun balanced poorly!

I personally love the look of wood too but prefer rubber for lots of shooting.
