Where Did All the Stevens 200 Go?

My Savage Axis (223) shoots extremely well had a Tikka T3x that I paid twice as much for that couldn't match the accuracy - sure the bolt was smooth on the Tikka but the groups were disappointing compared to my Axis - now the bolt on the Axis is smooth took about 2,000 rounds - it still shoots very well and proabably will for years to come. I did replace the extractor spring around 400-450 rounds and decided to put in a lighter McCarbo spring kit since my Axis did not come with the fancy trigger when I purchased the gun a few years ago.

Would I sell it? the simple answer is no

I got an original Axis when they first came out in 308, think it was under $300 at a Wholesale Sports black Friday sale. Then I picked up a .243 barrel off a Stevens 200 on EE for around $50. Now I just swap them out depending on what I have planned for hunting that year, only takes a few minutes. . I wouldn't sell mine either, as if have to essentially replace 2 rifles.

No, they changed the bedding to accommodate a detachable magazine and goofed up the trigger guard, to start.

The few I have played around with a bit have all been accurate enough for hunting , 1 1/2 moa or better.

I'm thinking that I should of held on to a few that I traded away

a 26-06 and a 22-250, those 2 and a savage 110 - 300WM were traded for a 1990 toyota 4 runner.

So far I have driven the 4 Runner about 25K and its only needed a water pump and universal joint so $200 in parts.

I still have one stevens 200 that has a Savage 12, 22-250 heavy barrel on it and in a Savage Accustock, just a franken gun

The Stevens were just good guns, basically a Savage 10 in a cheap stock, if you were looking to build on a Savage then the Stevens was the best donner action to start with.

I bought two Axis from Wholesale sports. A 223 with scope for $250 and a 7mm-08 compact for $223. I should have filled my shop with them. Both I still have and have given me 0 issues.

I have one in .25-06 rem I traded for years ago. I put it in a nice Boyds stock and it looks sharp. It shoots the lights out. I love it. Best "bang for the buck" rifle ever put out if you ask me. I think most dealers had these for sale at the end of their run for $399 regular price. Blowouts of $279 - $299 could be found around 10 years ago as dealers got rid of the last of their stock.

I casually look to see if anyone is selling a take off barrel (223) would be nice to have a spare one around - I currently have over 2,000 rounds through mine - I may put up a YT video showcasing my Axis including a look through the barrel with a quality borescope. These just shoot well and gets the job done

In my gun safe…. Have one in .243, super accurate, trigger can be adjusted (a bit of work) and great bluing after years. The only drawback is the stock and lack of a removable magazine. But for $380 at the time, Not complaining. Would buy another in a second.

WHen I got into bolt actions they were the thing to get for someone starting out, so I picked up a couple SA's. Use them all the time when I got out.
